Very rare 19th century Victorian Collignon folding steamer chair signed 1872

Lot # 39 (Sale Order: 39 of 229)

One of the top highlights of this sale is a very scarce and rare Collignan folding steamer / ocean liner chair. This authentic 1870's chair is marked by the company as well as the patent date of 1872. Not only are these chairs very rare this one is in the Eastlake style with burl walnut veener enhancments. Collignan brothers invented the folding rocking chair and made many models of folding chairs from 1868 until the facory in New Jersey on the Hackensack river burned to the ground in 1904. Pictures detail the patented iron notches and hinges that let this chair move to many multiple positions as well as lay flat to store. Chair is in very good condition as most of these that are discovered are in many pieces and missing parts. Here you have a solid walnut chair with old refinish, a few scratches, original hand tied cane backs with the foot rest having a tear on the edge. An amazing discovery and a chance to own at auction one of these very coveted deck chairs so dont miss out. Shipping should be reasonable with it being able to fold nearly flat....more

Very Rare 1939 China Marine photo albums with over 150 items, maps & photos. Very important find !

Lot # 41 (Sale Order: 41 of 229)

In 1937 Marine Corp Sergant Authur L. Smith received his orders to report to the American embassy in Shanghai China. The trip of a lifetime was about to begin as Marines loved to get embassy duty yet what he would see and experience would be no vacation at all. Sgt Smith purchased a Leica camera known for it's high quality so to photograph his experience. What he came back with were two Chinese made photo albums that you will see packed with photos from the second invasion of China by Japan in 1938 also known as the rape of Nanking. The photos start out with his ship going to Hawaii and then to Hong Kong with beautiful scenes as he must have felt like the luckiest Marine in the world to get this duty. Soon after arriving he also must have thought he was really going to have fun as he met Chinese movie stars of the day and even had one autographed from a famous Kung Fu film actor . The Chinese of the 1930's were very much Westernized and sported all the styles and clothing that Americans and other countries wore in that day. Then cae the Japanese back again but this time they would bring battleships and Crossley armored cars with Vickers machine guns to attack as well as hoards of infantry . What happened would turn Shanghai in to a total hell hole that would claim the lives of over 300,000. Sgt Smith was there with his camera . Having diplomatic immunity he could go about as he desired, and this he did, photographing the carnage first hand, sometimes with Japanese soldiers standing right beside him. He photographed Japanese ships with flags flying in the harbour, buildings bomed out, executions, mass graves and more. He also shot many rare photos of life at the Marine embassy which no longer exsist. Early Harley Davison motorcycles with side cars in his motor pool, the wrought iron entrance gate with the globe and anchor and many more.See more of these photographs of these two albums by visiting our website at terrysauction.com...more

Extremely rare WW2 Nazi Ambassador's Damascus hand made presentation dagger.

Lot # 50 (Sale Order: 50 of 229)

One of the true highlights of this sale and amazing. This dagger was given to high level allies by the Ambassador of Nazi Germany in the late 1930's and early 40's. Unlike any other dagger these had hand made blades from hammered wire as in the olden days and called damascus. Very tedious work was required to fashion one of these blades. Absolutley one of the rarest of all Nazi daggers as only very few were ever made. In the form color and style of a General's dress dagger the sheath and hilt areas are all silver plated. On the blade is engraved " With Thanks on Our Introduction" This dagger is in it's original condition, unpolished, unsharpened and very sharp. All is tight and correct. The few of these that have been sold have brought between $8,000 and $10,000 in the past and that has been years ago. Worth the trip to Tennesee to inspect and view this is a treasure to be sure and the only one I have ever seen in 30 plus years of handling military items. I can't read the facimile signature on the blade yet those who know about these daggers will. Opening bid is far below value or any prior sale, this dagger is truly a masterpiece....more
