S&W PA State Police Anniv .357 magnum Revolver

Lot # 1 (Sale Order: 1 of 244)      

SERIAL: 73K9041 DESIGN: Double action 6-shot revolver. 4" bbl. MATERIAL/FINISH/COMPOSITION: All metal components are the original high gloss blued steel. The hammer and trigger are color case hardened. The wood grips are high polished cocobola wood. FEATURES: Engraved on the right side of bbl in gold print is "PENNSYLVANIA STATE POLICE 75TH ANNIVERSARY 1905 - 1975." On the left is "SMITH & WESSON .357 MAGNUM". On the left of the receiver under the cylinder latch is the S&W trademark. On the right of the receiver behind the cylinder is the Pennsylvania shield. Also on the right of the receiver in front of the trigger guard is "MADE IN U.S.A. MARCAS REGISTRADAS SMITH & WESSON SPRINGFIELD, MASS." Golden S&W emblems are embedded in the top of both grips. Serial number, model number and additional proof stamping are found on the inside of the frame. Sights are adjustable with white outline in the rear with an orange blade fixed front sight. Revolver comes with presentation box, papers not present. CONDITION: Excellent. Almost all bluing remains on all metal components. Very little muzzle wear. Bore is mint. A slight drag mark is visible between the bbl lugs. Case colors on hammer and trigger are perfect. Numerous small marks on the bottom of the grips are the only remaining blemishes on this revolver. SERIAL: 159-32999 DESIGN: Double action 6-shot revolver. 4" bbl. MATERIAL/FINISH/COMPOSITION: All metal components stainless steel. Rubber grip. FEATURES: Warning label, manufacturer information and proof stamp are stamped on left rear of the bbl. Caliber is stamped on the right side of the bbl. Model name and Ruger trademark stamped on right side of frame above the trigger. Ramp front sight with the rear sight cut into the top of the frame. The grip is a rubber presentation grip from Pachmayr. CONDITION: Excellent. 95% + of brushed stainless appearance remains on all metal components. Muzzle shows modest wear. Bore is very good. Barrel also shows minimal wear with very slight wear on the bottom of the bbl. The receiver, cylinder and trigger guard are similar. SERIAL: 170384 DATE OF MANUFACTURE: 1938-1939, first variation of the 2nd model large frame DESIGN: Double action revolver with a pull pin released nine shot cylinder. 6" bbl. MATERIAL/FINISH/COMPOSITION: All metal components are blued steel. Hammer is case colored. One piece oversized checkered wood grips over a birds head style grip frame. FEATURES: Stamped on the left side of the barrel is "H & R ARMS COMPANY WORCESTER, MASS, U.S.A." Just to the rear of this is stamped "H & R 922." On the outside of the cylinder is stamped "PAT. 1904 730." The rear face of the cylinder is stamped 384, denoting a matching cylinder to the original revolver. Front sight is a brass pin pressed into the barrel. Rear sight is a groove machined into the top of the frame. CONDITION: Good. 80-85% of the bluing remains on the metal components. Moderate muzzle wear with a few scratches and loss of bluing. The crown also shows several significant scratches. Bore is very good with some fouling present. The barrel shows numerous small scratches and marks along the length of the barrel. Small areas of pitting can be seen on the barrel's entire length and circumference. The frame shows modest wear, mostly at the edges. Multitudes of small scratches can be seen on both sides of the frame with a ¾" scratch on the frame's left side. The trigger guard shows numerous small scratches and small pit marks along its length. The trigger shows loss of bluing at its edges. Case colors of the hammer are average. The bottom tang shows the same numerous scratches and pit marks as the rest of the revolver. The one piece grip is in good condition with most of the wear at the bottom with some loss of the wood material on the grip's bottom left. MATERIAL/FINISH/COMPOSITION: All metal components are high polished blued steel except for the hammer and trigger, which are case colored. Polished wood grip panels with a silver S&W emblem on each. FEATURES: Stamped on the left of the barrel is "SMITH & WESSON .38 S.&W. SPECIAL CTG." Stamped on the right of the barrel in gold motif is "METROPOLITAN POLICE DEPARTMENT WASHINGTON D.C. , 1861-1986." The S & W symbol is engraved on the left side of the frame just below the cylinder latch. Also on the left side of the frame just below the cylinder is stamped in gold " MPDC 97 ". The front sight is a fixed ramp sight. The rear sight is a groove machined into the top of the frame. The revolver comes in its original box with paperwork and cleaning rod and brush. Also issued with this anniversary revolver is the 125 year anniversary police badge (#97), 125 year anniversary medallion and ceremonial police baton with braids. CONDITION: Excellent. 98% + of the bluing remains on the metal components. Zero muzzle wear. Bore is mint. A fine drag line can be seen between the cylinder lugs. The bottom of the crane shows some small marks from opening the cylinder. The bottom of the trigger guard appears to have lost some of its high polished look. Some rust marks appear at the corners of the frame and on the trigger. The wood grips show no imperfections. The original box is very good with some fraying /wear at the edges. FEATURES: "INVISIBLE DEFENDER" engraved on the left side of the barrel cluster, no sight or safety appears on the pistol. At the slide's left rear is stamped the Colt Horse. On the right side of the slide is stamped "COLT AUTOMATIC CALIBRE 25." Serial number is stamped at the top of the left side of the frame. Additionally, on the left side of the frame, just in front of the trigger guard is stamped "83" and on the right side of the frame at the same place is stamped the proof marks. Cylinder release and inside of frame are stamped "2512." Bottom of grip frame is stamped "US ARM MODEL 1896 No. 152 512." The wood grips at this same location are stamped " R.A.C. " on each side of the grip frame. " R.A.C. " is also stamped at the top rear of the frame, just above the left grip. Front sight is a steel blade pressed into the barrel. Rear sight is a groove machined into the top of the frame. CONDITION: Good. Approximately 40-50% of the bluing remains on the metal components. Moderate muzzle wear with significant loss of bluing. The crown also shows several scratches. Bore is fair with some fouling present as well as significant pitting. The barrel shows numerous scratches and marks along the length of the barrel. Small areas of pitting can be seen on the barrel's entire length and circumference as well as a general loss of bluing in certain areas. The rest of the metal components are in large part the same condition. The two-piece grips are in good condition with most of the wear at the bottom. Stamped on the right of the barrel is "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CONN. U.S.A." The Colt symbol is engraved on the left side of the frame just below the cylinder latch. The front sight is a steel blade pressed into the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a groove machined into the top of the frame. The revolver comes in its original box. CONDITION: Excellent. 95% of the bluing remains on the metal components. Modest muzzle wear with small amount of bluing loss, most likely from a holster. Bore is mint. The barrel shows one very small light scratch on the underside of the barrel. A fine drag line can be seen between the cylinder lugs and several very light scratches can be seen on the side of the cylinder. The bottom of the trigger guard shows a small loss of bluing and some small nicks just behind that. One other small scratch is found at the rear of the left side of the frame, right beside the bottom of the hammer. The wood grips show no imperfections. MATERIAL/FINISH/COMPOSITION: All metal components are blued steel except for the sides of the hammer, which is unfinished. Two piece checkered wood grips. FEATURES: Stamped on the left side of barrel with model and caliber information. Stamped on the right with manufacturer information. The serial number is stamped on inside of frame and crane. The Colt emblem is also stamped on the left side of the frame. The front sight is a blade pressed into the top of the barrel and the rear is a groove machined into the top of the frame. The checkered grips have the silver Colt medallion laid into the top of each side. Revolver comes with right-handed leather Hunter holster, original box and "handling tips" pamphlet. CONDITION: Very Good. 90% of bluing remains on metal components. Minimal muzzle wear with one small scratch on the crown. Bore is very good with some fouling present. Minimal wear shows on the barrel. The frame and cylinder show more wear with numerous small scratches and bluing wear. The individual chambers of the cylinder show moderate fouling and pitting. MATERIAL/FINISH/COMPOSITION: All metal components are blued steel except for the sides of the hammer, which is polished metal. Checkered black plastic grip panels. FEATURES: The left side of barrel is stamped "COLT ARMY SPECIAL 32-20 W.C.F." The top of the barrel is stamped with manufacturer and patent information; the last patent date is July 4, 1905. Proof marked at the left front of the trigger guard with the Colt horse stamped into the left rear of the frame. The front sight is a blade pressed into the barrel and the rear is a groove in the top of the frame. Plastic grip panels have "COLT" at the top of each side. Revolver comes with a right-handed leather holster of unknown origin. CONDITION: Good. 80-85% bluing remains on metal components. Moderate muzzle wear. Crown shows a loss of bluing but no damage. SERIAL: 2168 DESIGN: Semiautomatic pistol with 7-round detachable magazine. 4” barrel. MATERIAL/FINISH/COMPOSITION: All metal components are blued steel. Two piece checkered wood grips. FEATURES: The left side of the frame is stamped "P. MOD. 37, KAL. 7.65." At the left of the slide is stamped "JHV 41." Proof marked on the left side of the slide and the left front of the trigger guard, just below the ejection port. The frame, slide and barrel have the serial number stamped on the left side. The safety is on the left rear of the frame. The pistol also has a grip safety. The front sight is a small dovetailed blade on the front of slide and the rear is a grooved notch in the rear of the slide. Wood grips have vertical grip serrations cut into the wood. Pistol comes with one magazine and a right-handed leather holster with an extra magazine pouch built in. The pistol also comes with the written description on plain parchment that the pistol was obtained from the battlefield in the European Theater in WWII. CONDITION: Excellent. 85-90% of the bluing remains on metal components. Modest muzzle wear. Crown shows a few very small nicks around its circumference. Bore is clean. Modest wear to the slide with most of it on the edges. There is some loss of bluing from holstering and small pit marks on the front 1/3 of each side.
