Vintage Cushman's Baking Company (Maine) LARGE Display Advertising Bakery Box
Great old advertising piece with two sides reading "Cushman's White Plains, NY". Measures 35" long, 20" wide and 19" high. M New York baker Nathan A. Cushman relocated to Portland in 1908. Upon arriving, he immediately began on the expansion of his thriving White Plains baking company to include a Portland factory. In White Plains, Cushman had been particularly successful in selling French-style breakfast rolls, and it was his intent to introduce this product to the Maine market. Cushman's Baking Company opened in January of 1915. The facility was located on the corner of Elm and Kennebec Streets, across from the then defunct Portland & Worcester Line railroad station. The factory was modeled after the state-of-the-art bakeries in New York City, and therefore was equipped with the most modern machinery, able to produce 1,800 perfectly baked loaves an hour. The loaves were then delivered fresh to the doors of customers using horse-drawn wagons that traveled throughout the city. NOTE: This item is PICK UP ONLY in Ellington, CT 06029 and must be retrieved within 10 days of auction end.

Also, there is a catalog number and other info. This was likely used in an early edition of the magazine. The artwork measures 13" tall and 17" wide. Condition is excellent. Well preserved. William Mason Brown (1828-1898) Original Oil on Board Still Life Basket of Apples
William Mason Brown Original Oil on Board Still life. Nice condition, never been removed from frame. Frame Dimensions 18x24, painting dimensions 12 x 18. A few small raised areas of paint, some marks that appear to be from dusting. $27.95 will be added for shipping. About the Artist: Along with Martin Johnson Heade, William Mason Brown was among a very elite group of artists equally adept at landscape painting as well as still-life painting. He was born in upstate New York in 1828, in the city of Troy, where he also began his art studies under Thomas Grinnell and later with the portraitist, Abel B. Moore. In 1850, at the age of twenty two, he followed Moore to Newark, NJ, where he continued his art education. After his apprenticeship portraitist period was complete he began to paint landscapes, inspired by Thomas Cole and the romantic artists of the Hudson River School. As the period of his landscape production largely covers the years of 1850 to 1869 his style of painting most resembles that of the Pre-Raphaelites. That is not surprising, especially when one learns that Brown lived in Brooklyn, home to most of the Pre-Raphaelites, and painted microscopic detail with equal fervor. It is not known how involved he was in the Society of Truth in Art, but he is extensively included in Linda Ferber's 1985 landmark book on the group, "The New Path, the American Pre-Raphaelites". Ironically enough, just as the Pre-Raphaelites burned out prematurely from the exacting nature of their work, so too did William Mason Brown's landscape phase came to an early end as he switched over to still-life painting. After 1869 he primarily switched over to painting fruit and floral still-lives. His work found its way into numerous public collections which include the Corcoran Gallery, Washington, DC; the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Art, Philadelphia, PA; the J.B. Speed Museum, Louisville, KY; the Haggin Museum, Stockton, CA; the Munson Williams Proctor Institute, Utica, NY; the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum, St. Johnsbury, Vermont; Cleveland Museum of Art, Cleveland, Ohio; the Hood Museum at Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire, and the Peabody Institute, Baltimore, MD. This painting I have now, "Autumn on the Lake", near Bolton's Landing, Lake George, while undated, likely dates to about 1865, the tail end of his early period when tightly executed landscapes were the norm. The crisply painted trees on the right are typical of the early 1860's. While it is difficult to analyze what the rain plumes in the distance symbolize, themes like "Storms Clearing Off" were used to symbolize the end of the Civil War. Just the way sunset images proliferated five years before hand when they symbolized the end of an era. Source: Alexander Boyle. He was featured on the television show "America's First River, Bill Moyers on the Hudson". Boyle worked with the Metropolitan Museum of Art as the Assistant Director of a film, "American Paradise, the World of the Hudson River School" and from 1988 to 2001 was Vice-President of Godel & Co. Fine Art in New York where he bought, sold and wrote about the artists of the Hudson River School, American marine painting, and American Impressionism.

All pieces are in very good condition except for the blouse which is a bit yellowed. The apellettes are missing as the owner had sentimental attachment. The owner served during Vietnam from 1966-1969. I would describe these as " Dress Blues" in military parlace. Quite a rarity as there were not many female Marines at that time. Dresden Figurine
Dresden Figurine Made in Germany. Lovely girl in a frilly white dress with yellow trim and fluffy yellow sleeves. The dress also has a green bodice. She is wearing a pink hat with a black ribbon. This figurine is standing on a white base with gold decoration. Nice little flowers dot the dress
Dresden porcelain factories were famous for using "Dresden lace" on their figurines, a process in which real lace was dipped in liquid porcelain and then attached to porcelain ball gowns or ballerinas. The result is an airy confection of frozen lace that is so fragile a touch can break it. For this reason, valuable pieces of Dresden porcelain should be protected under glass domes. Many lace pieces offered for sale have slight damage to the lace. That being said this figurine does have damage to the lace on her dress. Some yellow trim is missing from the bottom right side of the dress and
some on the back of the dress also. Pics of damage included. $13.95 for shipping.
Clear Glass Pairpoint-Style Handled or Hanging Vase With Amethyst Accents
A large glass vase with three handles that appear to be intended for hanging the vase. Handles and rim are amethyst-colored. There is a star-shaped imperfection under one handle that appears at first glance to be a crack, however inspection with a dental explorer finds no sign of an edge so it seems that it's a flaw in the glass. There are also a very few tiny bubbles in the glass. About 12 inches tall and 4 in diameter. Wt 1 lb 8 oz. $27.95 will be added for shipping to US addresses. International shipping will be billed at the greater of $27.95 or our cost plus 10 percent. We combine shipping on multiple items with the same 2 letter code going to the same address.
