1939 Norton Military

Lot # 482 (Sale Order: 132 of 229)

James Lansdown Norton ('Pa' to everyone), founded the company in 1898, supplying parts mainly to the Clement-Garrard company. In 1902, Norton made its first motorcycle with Clement, and later with Peugeot engines. In 1907, Norton’s first in-house engine appeared, a 474cc V-twin. By the beginning of WWI, Nortons were relatively antiquated, being only belt-driven with no gears, despite a number of speed records. It was not until 1914 that they had clutches, gearboxes and all-chain drive. The example offered here is a rare girder-forked Model 16H ('Home') 500. Tough and durable in appearance, it has been meticulously restored in its original military battle form with two seats and saddle bags.

1927 Monet Goyon ZG

Lot # 484 (Sale Order: 134 of 229)

In 1916 two Frenchmen, engineer Joseph Monet and Adrien Goyon, a wealthy citizen of Macon, formed a partnership with the aim of producing 3-wheeled cycle vehicles for the growing population of disabled war veterans. In 1922 Monet & Goyon secured the production rights for the popular British Villiers 2-stroke engines, which they then used to power a series of championship-winning motorcycles from 1924 to 1927, setting a number of world speed records as well. This 1927 model ZG, an older, fine restoration, features a Villiers Mk 7-A 150cc, 2-stroke engine.

1956 MV Agusta CSS/5V Squalo

Lot # 485 (Sale Order: 135 of 229)

The 'Squalo's' (Shark) 175cc single-cam engine was housed in a frame derived directly from MV Agusta’s racing bikes. Some of the features unique to the 'Squalo”'included an external magneto rather than a flywheel ignition system, and an Earles fork of the triangular type with exposed springs. The bike was developed from a prototype that, in the hands of Libanori, won its debut at Trento on the 22th of July, 1954, when it was still fitted with flywheel Magneto ignition with a trembler on the left side.. Finned alloy brake drums were substantial for the day, with 180 mm used in the front, 150 mm in the rear. Top speed was substantial as well; 150 Kph was well above the normal MV Agusta range. In 1955, a DOHC kit was approved by the factory and could be obtained over the counter and installed by the owner....more

1964 MV Agusta Gran Turisom Lusso

Lot # 486 (Sale Order: 136 of 229)

MV intended this bike to succeed the popular 'Centomila.' Under a few changes in the paint, it was essentially the same bike, complete with 4-speed gearbox. The frame was typical MV; tubular front and pressed-steel rear. But it didn’t take long for big changes, both stylistically and mechanically, to turn the 125 GTL into a virtually all-new bike. A 5-speed gearbox was fitted in 1965, and by the end of the decade, a sleeker fuel tank and attention to details created a very sporty look with modest mechanicals. With its top speed of 115 Km/h and a dry weight of 105 Kg, it was a nimble bike, ideal for both urban and rural roads.

1962 MV Agusta Liberty Sport

Lot # 487 (Sale Order: 137 of 229)

It had been a number of years since MV had built a small-capacity cycle, yet in the early 1960’s, they felt that the time was right for a return to making a diminutive motorcycle. Where many competitors constructed small bikes that looked toy-like, MV approached the niche with a motorcycle that looked just like the bike Dad rode to work on, just at a smaller scale. It was ideal for youth that didn’t have their license yet. The engine displaced just 47.7cc, and its top speed was only 45 Km/h. Yet at first glance, many thought it was a bigger bike. When introduced, it used a three-speed gearbox, and 16-inch wheels. As production moved forward the wheels were increased in diameter to 18-inches. The Liberty Sport continued in the marketplace until 1968, and production was just a shade under 3300 units built.

1960 MV Agusta TREl Centomila

Lot # 488 (Sale Order: 138 of 229)

MV was never shy about releasing various iterations of a specific model motorcycle, and the 125 Turismo Rapido was no exception. With its advanced lubrication system, MV was confident enough to rename the TREL (Turismo Rapido Extra Lusso) the 'Centomila' (One-Hundred-Thousand), referring to the expected longevity and reliability. With its 4-stroke, single-cylinder, 125cc engine, blazing speed was not part of the equation. A top speed of 95 Km/h meant that long-distance traveling on the highway probably wasn’t in the cards. Yet it was a popular bike, with 14,105 units built. MV released the R.A. and E.L. models before production stopped in 1963....more

1966 MV Agusta Liberty Turismo 2a Versione

Lot # 489 (Sale Order: 139 of 229)

Why should Dad be the only one to ride a motorcycle? This was the question posed when the 50cc Liberty debuted in 1962. Aimed at youngsters not old enough to acquire a driver’s license, it was truly a scaled-down motorcycle that looked like a bigger bike. The diminutive single-cylinder, 4-stroke, pushrod engine only produced 1.5 HP, but in a bike weighing only 58.5 Kg, it would top out at 40 Km/h. This example uses a 3-speed gearbox with a twist-grip gear change. Production numbers were impressive; 5,292 units were built.

1972 MV Agusta Twin Sport Elettronica

Lot # 490 (Sale Order: 140 of 229)

In its five-year production run, the 350 Twin was the recipient of constant improvements. One of the most notable was the introduction of electronic ignition in the spring of 1972. This upgrade improved the reliability of the motorcycle. The pushrod, 4-stroke twin-cylinder engine still generated 27 HP, and for the boy-racer, a fairing that resembled a competition setup was available, but it did have a headlight to keep it street legal. There was even a police version of this model, complete with crash bars, windscreen, pannier bags, siren, and direction indicators.

1976 MV Agusta Ipotesi GT

Lot # 491 (Sale Order: 141 of 229)

Freshening an established design - it’s a concept that has been used for decades. MV tapped the styling firm of Giugiaro to visually update the popular 350 Twin. With 40 HP on tap, and a chassis that encouraged spirited riding, the 'bones' of the bike were user friendly. But MV wanted to push the styling envelope, and Giugiaro did just that, with horizontal fins on the side cover and engine casing echoing the cylinder cooling fins. Within the restyled case were the same components as the prior 350, which was not a bad thing. But MV was fighting financial woes, and when the firm closed its doors in 1977, the 350 Ipotesi GT slipped into history. Sold with Title Guaranteed.

1911 Pierce Single

Lot # 500 (Sale Order: 150 of 229)

Originally from Buffalo, New York, Pierce-Arrow was one of two U.S. companies that made both cars and motorbikes. Pierce bikes cost more to build than what they could be sold for, which drove them out of business in a short amount of years. This restored Pierce single cylinder belt drive was previously on loan to the National Motorcycle Museum, Anamosa, Iowa before being purchased by the seller. The gas and oil tanks are built into the frame. A rare bike! Sold with a Bill of Sale.
