Western Letters from Miner Deming

Lot # 6359 (Sale Order: 363 of 534)      

Western letters from Miner Jas. D. Demming 1865-1866 Jas D. Demming was from Plasant City, PA. and wrote the Mar. 1865 letter from Golden City, Colorado and the June, 1866 letter from Calif. Gulch, Colorado. All hand written in ink and dated, they contain geat content of mining business. and address some rebels and Indians on the warpath. Transcriptions of the letters are included in the lot so details are not lost.

Notes on Col. Cody's Life in Ledger Book

Lot # 6361 (Sale Order: 365 of 534)      

Notes on Col. Cody's life as given to R. Farrington Elwell by the subject. 190 pages handwritten in a ledger book by Elwell (with clarifying notes by his wife.) A great reference as told by the man himself to a close friend. Many detailed stories, McCarthys incident 1857, Freighting, time with Custer, Summit Springs battle, Capture of Red Shirt, meeting Buntline. Large section on the Yellow Hand killing. Many things never seen in print. A very important narrative. Ledger measures 7-1/2" x 4-1/2"

Presented to Buffalo Bill by G. W. Lillie aka Pawnee Bill. Plated silver traveling shaving kit with mirror & shaving brush by Biggins Rogers Co. Wallingford, CT. Inscription on front of piece reads Great W.F. Cody The Scout from G. W. Lillie. Raised buffalo decorations. Monogram on backside of mirror reads WFC. Mirror also marked Pat'd Jan. 18, 1910. Shaving brush handle is hammered silver and does not appear to be original to the shaving kit. 5-1/2" wide x 3" high; brush handle is 3" long

Wild Bill Hickok's Knife in Wood Box

Lot # 6365 (Sale Order: 369 of 534)      

Stamped in wood on top of box, Wild Bill Hickok's Own Knife. Bone handled knife marked XL ALL Parkin & Marshall Cutlers, Sheffield. Brass collar. Marked James Butler Hickok (Wild Bill's alias) on the blade. Wild Bill Hickok, who was aware of his own fame, would collateralize many of his gambling debts with knives that bore his name. This is one such knife won in a card game by Jacob Nash of Lawrence, Kansas. He was very proud of this knife and the fact that he beat Hickok in a game of poker. Provenance Samuel Osborn, Topeka. Paper label history inside box along with a paper label for Covenent United Bretheren in Christ Church, 5420 Huntoon St. Topeka, Kansas. 10-3/4" long

Beautiful Colt wall clock. Colt Fire Arms engraved at the top. Sold by G. F. Spangernberg painted on the top of the glass door. 212 Fourth St. Tombstone is painted at the bottom of the clock door. Mr. Spangerberg was probably a Tombstone shop owner who sold Colt revolvers. Double mirrored shelves at each side of the clock. Large horse finial at the top. Hartford Conn. on the pendulum. 60-1/2" high

Plaque on top of case reads, Presented to Miss Annie Oakley In Appreciation For Joining Our New Show Young Buffalo Wild West June 1911 Veron C. Seavers. The five piece set includes a heavily embossed flower and vine pattern hand mirror, two round brushes and two long brushes. All have silver hallmarks. All are engraved, "Annie." The lot includes hand written provenance of the cases history. Case measures 15" x 8" x 3-1/2"
