1890s Era U.S. Navy ''Donald Duck'' Hat, with fancy top embroidery, outer ship ribbon marked ''U.S.S. Dixie'' sewn over ''U.S.S. Charleston''. The Charleston helped capture Guam and was part of Dewey's blockading ship squadron in Manila, and took part in the final action leading to the surrender of the city. Her entire crew escaped to a nearby island where they remained until being picked up by the Helena ten days later. The Dixie was built in 1893 and arrived in Santiago, Cuba on June 19, 1898, and participated in the capture of Ponce, Puerto Rico, later serving in the West Indies, the Mediterranean, thru the Suez, and on to the Philippines. She finished her career as a destroyer tender and was decommissioned in 1922. Hat remains in excellent condition with beautiful handwork; interior is blue silk with light fading.
