Early Box of Sharps .44 2-5/8'' Berdan-Primed Cartridges

Lot # 210 (Sale Order: 210 of 779)

Early Box of Sharps .44 2-5/8'' All Correct, Berdan-Primed, Paper-Patched Cartridges, by Sharps Rifle Co. (one is a replacement). These rare ''white label'' Hartford boxes pre-date Sharps' move to Bridgeport in 1876. Most labelings in Sharps calibers were made by UMC, although smaller amounts were produced by E. Remington & Sons (earlier) and Winchester (later). Note the factory re-labeling in ink by the striking off of ''45'' (Calibre) and ''10'' (cartridges), and the over-writing of ''44'' and ''5'' in their place. This was very typical, in fact, unmarked boxes are even rarer. Condition is fine to near excellent with light toning from age and small amounts of slightly darker discoloration to right side edge.
