Emergence

Lot # 004 (Sale Order: 4 of 50)

This double-weave piece using paper yarns is a study of contrasts and connections. The final form of this piece echoes the duality inherent in its creation: a symbiosis of control and play, planning and chance, structure and surprise. Weaving requires precise calculations and meticulous measurements, and yields reliable, geometric results. The more spontaneous process of dying the weft, alternatively, offers very limited control over the outcome. The colors that the artist sees when applying the dyes bear little resemblance to what appears after the transparent paper yarn has been rinsed and dried. Ultimately, the subtle interplay of color takes on a life of its own in the rhythmic, repetitive process of weaving.

Outside In

Lot # 005 (Sale Order: 5 of 50)

As we continue to populate the Earth, space, light and the natural environment become increasingly scarce. Thinking about our human needs as well as being conscious of our demands on the planet, I decided to introduce a painting that is for beauty sake and at the same time addresses these needs. Beyond being looked at, this painting reflects its environment while also expanding the perception of the space and light. Through this process all that is included in this space becomes a part of the painting, highlighting ourselves as active participants in the artwork and our dwellings.

Field One

Lot # 006 (Sale Order: 6 of 50)

This series of works began with a set of generative drawings taking both appropriated and observational imagery and actively fragmenting and layering the subject to a point at which the original context was dissolved completely. The paintings developed from these initial works activate a new set of color-forms and erupt into an altogether new plane. They pay homage to impressions of the body and to the land while intentionally avoiding a horizon or other immediately recognizable forms or structures. They are a celebration of the strange and familiar and of the indissolubility of self and other.

Her (Decisions)

Lot # 011 (Sale Order: 11 of 50)

HER (decisions) is a large scale (5’ x 5’) watercolor painting. It expresses the clashing repetition of poor decision making and the struggle to make choices in modern times. This work utilizes a synthesis of technological tools such as iphones, apps, and photoshop blended with ancient craft/art techniques of painting with Paynes Grey traditional watercolor media. Inspired by design, decoration, women’s labor, and craftsmanship, when finished, this work will be a kaleidoscope of angst and beauty. Framed, white.
