Winchester Model 1894 Special Order Lever Action Rifle
Lot # 1 (Sale Order: 1 of 824)
serial #175189, 25-35 WCF, 26” part round, part octagon barrel with button magazine and an excellent bore. This beautiful rifle is in a remarkable state of condition. The barrel, magazine and nosecap retain 95% plus original blue with a few sparse spots of very light surface oxidation near the muzzle and a number of tiny handling marks and light dings. The frame and tangs retain 95% original blue with some toning to pewter along the front edge with some light silvering on the high edges and a small patch of pinprick pitting is present on the front right upper corner. The lever, hammer and crescent buttplate display about 85% original faded case-hardened color with the balance toned to a smoky gray case-hardened patina. The plain straight grip walnut buttstock and forend rate excellent with nearly all the original finish remaining and a few light dings and dents from the years; there is a small drying check at the midpoint of the comb on the left side. Featured are a standard sporting front sight with neatly added bead of solder and a Winchester express, two folding, one standing leaf rear sight with platinum inlaid lines. Included is a factory letter from Cody Firearms Museum cofirming the configuration and stating this rifle was shipped on July 23, 1903. Rarely do you find a Model 1894 rifle of this age in as superb condition as this one; truly investment quality. (157041-1) {C&R}

Marlin Model 1889 Lever Action Rifle
Lot # 2 (Sale Order: 2 of 824)
serial #84219, 38-40, 24” round barrel with full length magazine and a bright, very good to near excellent bore with some light pitting. The barrel and magazine tube retain 95-97% original blue with a patch or two of dark oxidation staining and some faint scratches and handling marks present; the magazine has begun toning to a deep brown. The frame retains 95% original bright blue with some light handling marks as well. The lever and hammer exhibit about 95% plus faded case-hardened color with the balance toned to mottled pewter; the crescent buttplate shows some strong case-hardened color as well. The plain straight grip walnut buttstock and forend rate very good overall with some lightly added finish and some light dings and dents from the years. Featured are a German silver Rocky Mountain style front sight and a buckhorn rear sight. A superb investment grade Model 1889 rifle that would be a fine addition to any Marlin collector’s ensemble. Mass Arms Company Maynard Primed Pocket Model Percussion Revolver

serial #119, .28 Cal, 3” round barrel with a bright excellent bore. The barrel and rotating catch retain about 98% original blue with the barrel frame retaining excellent original color case-hardening, the left and right flat on the octagonal section with a very light tool mark. The cylinder is lovely retaining nearly all its original niter blue showing only a couple worn spots where it has lain in a drawer, the etched surface beneath is a light plum brown, the cylinder etchings still crisp. The frame retains about 85% original blue with the engraving crisp left and right, the butt worn to a plum brown, the backstrap graying. The hammer retains excellent original color case-hardening with some strong traces of fire temper blue on the trigger. The smooth walnut grips rate very good plus to excellent with only minor dings and handling marks and wear along their butt edges retaining nearly all their original varnish, they are pencil-numbered to the gun. This example rotates the cylinder automatically when the hammer is cocked and seems to operate very well. All of the numbered parts are matching with the exception of the barrel which is numbered “311”, it appears to have been with the gun for a very long time and matches it perfectly. This is an extremely nice example of a very seldom encountered early pocket revolver. (36889-247) {ANTIQUE}

Colt Model 1877 Lightning Double Action Revolver

serial #162643, 38 Colt, 6" barrel with a bright excellent bore. This revolver is in very fine condition with the barrel, ejector rod housing and cylinder retaining about 95% original blue. The grip straps are about 85% with loss on backstrap where finish is thinning and blending with a pleasing smooth brown patina. The frame retains 95% original color case-hardened finish which has softened slightly but is still very vivid and has a lovely appearance. The two piece checkered hard rubber grips rate excellent. This revolver is marked with Colt's "VP" proof and a "T" on left side of triggerguard. Factory records will show this as part of a three gun shipment to Townley Metal and Hardware Company in Kansas City on February 22, 1907 (no letter included). (15698-36) {C&R}

A.H. Fox Special Order Ae Double Ejectorgun

serial #30357, 12 ga., 32" barrels choked full and full with bright excellent bores. This is an extremely fine Fox. The gun features a special order barrel length and ejectors and it remains in spectacular condition. The barrels retain 99% deep original blue finish with just a few tiny very light scratches. The action retains about 95% original color case-hardened finish which remains vivid with just a little thinning on the belly. The engraving remains very sharp as do all markings. The checkered walnut round knob pistolgrip buttstock and splinter forend rate excellent plus with 99% original finish remaining and with sharp checkering. The gun has nice dimensions with a 14 1/4" length of pull over the original grooved hard rubber buttplate and has drops of 1 1/2" and 2 1/2". The gun comes with a factory letter confirming the configuration and showing shipment on July 22, 1924 to California Hardware Co. It would be virtually impossible to find a cleaner Fox AE double gun. This 1970 issue revolver retains about 99% original royal blue finish with a faint turn ring on the cylinder the only blemish seen. The un-numbered checkered factory walnut target stocks with gold Colt medallions are in excellent condition. Included with this fine revolver is an original factory Styrofoam insert wood grain box that is correctly end labeled and numbered to the gun and a manual is also provided. A sticker on the box states “Colt Python 1970 – Issue”. This beautiful revolver has plenty of condition and has seen very little use during its life span. A truly fine example of a Match Target, this 1939 era gun retains about 97% original blue finish with the only detractors consisting of limited but faint high edge wear, scattered scratches and a few small oxidation blemishes. The checkered walnut “elephant ear” stocks with silver Colt medallions are in outstanding condition. A correctly marked two tone magazine with light wear is included. Frank Wesson No. 2 Deluxe Sporting & Gallery Rifle

serial #7789, 38 RF or CF, 28" part round part octagon barrel with a bright excellent bore and an unusual and neat 16 sided section at transition. This is a lovely Wesson rifle. The barrel retains about 95% original blue finish overall with loss due to even thinning. The frame retains about 80 - 85% original nickel plated finish which has dulled slightly and blends nicely with the smooth gray patina where finish is missing. The hammer retains a good deal of original color case-hardened finish and has an adjustable striker for aligning with either the rimfire or centerfire firing pins. The checkered pistolgrip buttstock is of highly figured American black walnut and rates excellent with 97% original finish remaining and with strong checkering. The rifle is fitted with its original nickel plated crescent buttplate which retains about 40% of its original finish and with areas of loss blending nicely with a smooth gray patina showing. The rifle is sighted with a windgauge front, standard sporting rear and original Wesson Vernier tang mounted folding peepsight. These Sporting and Gallery rifles are quite rare, this one has the addition of fancy wood and the nice treatment at the barrel transition making it even more unusual. Savage Model 1899 Factory Engraved A-2 Special Rifle

serial #70.313, 303 Savage, 26" round barrel with a bright excellent bore. This rifle is factory engraved in a simple floral and grape-leaf pattern on either side of action. The front of the action ring also has a simple geometric pattern engraved along its circumference. The condition of this rifle is fabulous and both the buttstock and forearm are properly numbered to the rifle, however, the buttplate is a later serrated steel variation with "SVG" monogram which didn't appear until the late 1920's. The barrel retains 98% strong original blue finish overall. The action shows crisp clean engraving and also retains 98% plus bright original blue finish. The lever retains strong original color case-hardened finish. The checkered straight grip buttstock and schnabel tipped forend rate excellent with 97% original vanish remaining with just a few scattered light handling marks and with sharp crisp checkering. The rifle is sighted with a German silver blade Rocky Mountain front and a standard open sporting rear. This is a extremely fine, high condtion factory engraved Savage 1899 rifle. Investment quality. serial #679753, 24” octagon barrel with bright excellent bore. The barrel retains 99% original blue having a few light scattered faint scratches and some light edge wear. The frame exhibits 98% plus original blue showing a small scratch on the left side and flaking on the top from operational use. The straight grip stock and grooved forend rate excellent having just a few light handling marks over a strong factory varnish. The crescent buttplate shows some finish loss on the high edges but retains 98% blue. The gun features a blade front sight and a screw adjustable rear sight. Cased Manhattan Series Iv Navy Type Revolver

serial #65732, .36 caliber, 6 1/2" octagon barrel with a bright excellent bore. This is a fine and high condition Manhattan but the barrel is numbered "60212", however, the condition of the barrel matches perfectly and this revolver appears to have been in this configuration since the period of use. The barrel with two-line Newark address retains about 70% bright original blue finish with most loss due to flaking and with areas of exposed metal bearing a pleasing smooth brown patina. The cylinder shows vivid scene and has flaked to a smooth and even gray brown patina. The frame and loading lever retain about 70% mottled original color case-hardened finish. The brass gripstraps retain 97% nicely tarnished original silver plated finish while the original one-piece walnut grip rates excellent with a little old added light finish and a few light handling marks. The revolver comes in a lovely English style oak case with round brass escutcheon in center of lid. The exterior of the case appears have been lightly refinished long ago while the red baize lined interior is all original and has faded to a beautiful light pink color with dividers mostly sound, two are loose but could be easily repaired. The accessories include a nice plain flask which retains a good deal of original lacquer, an original Manhattan two cavity mould, ebony handled turnscrew, a tin of caps, some cast bullets and a reproduction box of skin cartridges. Cased Manhattan Series I Navy Type Revolver

serial #4107 all matching including wedge, .36 caliber, 4" octagon barrel with a bright excellent bore. This revolver wears British proofs and remains in very nice original condition. The barrel retains about 50% bright original blue finish with loss mostly due to flaking and with areas of loss bearing a pleasing smooth brown patina. The cylinder has flaked to a smooth even gray brown patina. The frame and loading lever retain about 75% mottled original color case-hardened finish which remains quite strong just not showing a lot of contast. The gripstraps retain 90% original silver plated finish which is thinning on the backstrap but has a lovely appearance with a nice mellow tarnish present. The one piece walnut grips rate excellent with 95% original finish remaining. The revolver comes in an Engilsh style oak casing with brass shield shaped escutcheon on the top lid. The interior is lined in green baize with many partitioned compartments which hold a small bag shaped flask, Manhattan marked two-cavity mould, tin of caps and an "L" shaped combination tool. Tipping & Lawden Cased Model 1A Pepperbox

serial #1644, 22 RF, 2 5/8" four barrel cluster with good lightly pitted bores. This pistol is engraved along the top flute of the barrels "E.M. REILLY & CO. OXFORD ST. LONDON" and interestingly the "Tipping & Lawden" name is overstruck in a herringbone pattern with the lower half of the marking "SHARPS' PATENT" remaining legible and unaltered. The condition is very nice with the barrels retaining 95% strong original blue finish. The frame retains 95% original silver-plated finish which is just lightly tarnished and shows a little minor bubbling in a couple areas. The foliate gutta percha grips rate excellent with no chips. The pistol comes in an original mahogany case with burl lid and is the variation with two triangular covered interior compartments (one lid is missing) and blue baize lining. The case rates excellent with about 90% original finish overall, intact lining and accessories include a steel wiper and key. One edge of the lid may be an old replacement. Strong Firearms Co Salute Cannon
Lot # 15 (Sale Order: 15 of 824)
10 Ga., 11 1/2” barrel with a lightly oxidized bore. The barrel itself is a tarnished ochre patina with a few dings here and there, most notably at the breech, but with the makers marking still mostly present; the cascabel too with minor impact marks. All of the brass hardware is intact and is the same dull ochre patina, the elevation screw is iron. The mahogany carriage rates very good to fine showing an old revarnish many years ago, now nicely oxidized with some minor dings and handling marks, the rear showing a couple scuffs. This early example features a right-side lever which withdraws, freeing the breech to withdraw straight back and pivot left for loading. The shell extractor is missing from the left side of the breechblock but a replacement should be easy to fashion. Once closed, these early cannon used a trip-hammer style of ignition, rather than the later spring-loaded striker normally seen. The breech does have a slight bit of play but overall the mechanism seems as though it would function fine. The lanyard passes from the bottom of the pivot through an eyelet on the rear of the bottom stretcher. Overall a very nice, still very usable, early Strong cannon. (37025-10)

Smith & Wesson Model 29 Double Action Revolver

serial #S199395, 44 Magnum, 4” pinned heavy barrel with an excellent bore. This 1959 made revolver still retains about 98% original blue finish with some selected areas of high edge wear and a turn ring on the recessed cylinder. This well preserved revolver retains bold case-hardened colors on the target trigger and target hammer. The diamond checkered walnut target grips with silver S&W medallions are in near excellent condition with a few light dents and scratches. This four screw gun has a red ramp front sight and white outline micro adjustable rear sight. The revolver includes a fitted wood presentation case that is in very good condition with scattered light dents and scratches on the wood surfaces. The interior flocking remains near excellent with light storage wear. The presentation case houses a cleaning rod with brush, bore mop and S&W screwdriver. Colt New Service Revolver

This revolver still retains about 95% original blue finish with light even high edge wear, silvering at the muzzle and scattered light oxidation blemishing on the right side of the barrel and one chamber area of the cylinder along with the usual cylinder turn ring. The checkered hard rubber grips are correctly scratch-numbered to the gun and remain in very good to excellent condition. The left panel has a small ding at the base but the rest of the surfaces are excellent. Timing and lock up on this commercial New Service remain as tight as the day it left the Colt in 1928. Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum 1950 Model Hand Ejector Revolver

This mid 50’s, pre model 27 revolver retains about 97% original blue finish with some slight silvering at the muzzle, light pits at the front sight / rib juncture, scattered light scratches and a light turn ring on the cylinder. The Magna trigger and standard hammer retain robust case-hardened colors. The diamond checkered walnut factory grips are in near excellent condition with light handling marks. The revolver is equipped with Baughman ramp front sight and black blade micro adjustable rear sight. All appropriate parts including the grips are correctly numbered to the gun. U.S. Model 1909 Revolver By Colt

serial #48177, 45 Colt, 5 1/2” barrel with a solitary oxidation blemish in the bore. Overall, this 1911 made revolver retains about 90% original blue finish with the backstrap thinning to silver, high edge wear, holster wear on the cylinder along with scattered light scratches on the metal surfaces. The trigger and back surfaces of the hammer retain strong Nitre blue finish. The face of the trigger is worn to silver and the in-the-white sides of the hammer have light staining. The unmarked aftermarket Rosewood stocks are made to resemble the original utilizing more pronounced brass escutcheons but they are in excellent condition. Major Walther G. Penfield’s crisp inspection mark is on the right side of the frame and sub inspector Rinaldo A. Carr’s initials are on the frame, barrel and cylinder. Timing and lock up are as good as the day it left Colt. This particular gun has the take down hole in the knurled ejector rod head and the lanyard swivel is present. All but a handful of model 1909’s were sent straight to the Philippines where the harsh climate and rough use were not kind to them. Fabulous Marlin Ballard No. 5 Pacific Rifle

serial #1100, 44-77, 28" octagon barrel with a bright minty bore. This is an absolutely top shelf Ballard Pacific rifle. The barrel retains 95% rich original blue finish with most loss due to light silvering on the high edges. The action retains 90% original color case-hardened finish which has softened and has a wonderful honest appearance. The rifle features original adjustable double set triggers and ring lever. The walnut buttstock shows nice figure near the buttplate and rates excellent with 95% original finish remaining. The forend is in similar condition with only the lightest carry wear, the original crescent steel buttplate retains 85% faded original color case-hardened finish. The original hickory wiping rod is present beneath the barrel mounted in factory ferrules. The rifle is sighted with a German silver blade Rocky Mountain front and standard sporting open rear sights. While the breechblock protrudes slightly from the bottom of the action, it is indeed original and is numbered to the rifle as is the extractor. The rifle comes with bullet mould blocks, some cast projectiles and brass cartridge cases. These Pacific rifles were working guns and saw lots of use on the American plains during the last quarter of the 19th century. This rifle remains in remarkable, all original, untouched condition. It would be very difficult to upgrade this rifle, clearly one of the finest Pacific Ballards extant. An investment quality rifle worthy of the finest collection of American single shot rifles. Fine Custom Winchester Model 1885 High Wall Rifle

serial #132393, 405 WCF, 26" tapered round barrel with a bright excellent bore. This is an extremely handsome High Wall rifle which has been custom barreled and stocked in British style. The barrel features a banded ramp hooded front sight and three leaf express rear sight mounted on raised ramp. The lever has been nicely customized and the rifle is stocked in a wonderful grade of English walnut. The stock features a steel gripcap and solid red rubber recoil pad while the forend is beautifully tipped in ebony. The rifle is equipped with sling studs mounted in toeline of stock and neatly soldered to bottom of barrel ahead of forearm. Metal surfaces of rifle retain 99% wonderful quality rust blue finish. The stocks are flawlessly checkered in a moderately coarse pattern and rate excellent plus with 98% original oil finish remaining. While the rifle is unsigned, Mr. Benenson's notes state that the rifle was built by Bill Ferguson of Oregon around 2002. Winchester Model 1885 Semi-Deluxe Takedown Low Wall Rifle

serial #113335, 25-20 S.S., 28" round No. 1 weight barrel with a bright excellent bore. This rifle has special order features including checkered pistolgrip stock, checkered steel hard rubber buttplate, takedown and special sights. In addition to all of these features the rifle has condition. The metal surfaces of rifle retain about 97% original blue finish overall with a little very light flaking on the takedown collar. The lever and hammer show strong original color case-hardened finish. The checkered hard rubber capped pistolgrip buttstock and forend rate excellent with 95% original finish remaining and showing strong checkering and just a few light handling marks. The rifle is sighted with a globe target front, standard sporting rear and a windage adjustable folding tang mounted peepsight. The lower left tang shows assembly number "1358" while the end grain of the buttstock and the buttplate are numbered "304". With that being said, there is no factory record for this rifle, it is a late gun, the stocks fit beautifully and we feel that this rifle has been in this configuration all along, possibly being some kind of employee assembled rifle. Custom Alexander Martin Steyr Model 1892?Magazine Sporting Rifle

serial #6348 (Alx. Martin#7575), 375 Express 2 1/2”, 27” barrel with a bright excellent bore. The barreled action retains about 97% maker blue with the barrel toning to plum. The races in the receiver are a pewter patina with some very light oxidation staining. The bolt body retains very good original blue with the knob toning to brown while the bottom metal retains 65% original blue with front and rear fading to plum. The English walnut stock is classic style and rates very good plus with the expected minor handling marks and dings from the years; there is an unobtrusive repair to an old chip just to the rear of the tang. There is a nice accenting horn pistolgrip cap and forend tip with nice checkered wrap-around patterns at grip and forend, the edges softening a little. The length of pull to the smooth steel buttplate is 14 5/8” and the arm is equipped with quick detachable sling swivel eyelets. The rifle is sighted with a small silver bead atop a sporting ramp front with a nice two-leaf express rear sight with silver index lines. The arm was drilled and tapped for a set of quick-detach scope rings which support a Germanic looking telescopic sight which has been neatly engraved with the riflemakers name “Alexr Martin, Glasgow & Aberdeen/Incorporated With/Alexr Henry & Co. Edinburgh”; the top of the barrel as well is maker engraved in an identical fashion. The scope is fading to plum showing some very light surface oxidation with flaking enamel on the ocular lense, the optics are very good and the reticle is post and crosshair. The rifle comes cased in what is likely its original leather luggage case with makers label and leather carry tube for scope. The case rates very good with the expected scuffing and handling marks from the years. The carry handle has come detached. Included with the arm are two boxes of unprimed virgin brass. Really a super antique arm from a time when telescopic sporting sights were in their infancy, suitable for most all North American big game and all plains species in Africa. Custom 1892 Krag Magazine Sporting Rifle By Griffin & Howe

serial #1458, 25-35 Win, 21” barrel with a bright excellent bore. The metal surfaces retain about 85% original blue, the loss is mainly fading and toning to pewter on the high edges and contact points. The bolt body and receiver races are still mostly bright, the right side race with remnants of its G&H jewelling. The classic-style English walnut stock rates about excellent with sparse dings and handling marks. It features a Whelen-style rounded left-side cheekpiece with shadowline, wrap-around checkering with mullered borders at both grip and forearm, horn forend tip, G&H sling swivel studs and an engraved checkered steel trapdoor buttplate for a 13 1/2” length of pull. The trigger is neatly checkered and the bolt handle has been gracefully low-swept and its knob neatly up-turned for quick grasping. The knob was neatly checkered and engraved, as was the grip cap and triggerguard bow, these in neat scroll and acanthus leaf by Jos. Fugger. The arm is sighted with a G&H banded sporting front sight with hood and brass bead sight as well as a Redfield rear receiver sight. Additionally, the left side of the receiver shows two neatly drilled and tapped holes which no doubt once supported a telescopic sight base, now with fillers; the safety is a low-scope Buehler offering, no doubt fitted when the scope mounting was done. The top of the barrel is “Griffin & Howe Inc. New York” engraved, as-is the caliber, there is no G&H number present. While unsubstantiated, Mr. Benenson’s notes reference an early 80’s conversation between its previous owner and Mr. John Realmuto of G&H, in which the latter fellow indicated it was Seymour Griffin’s deer rifle. Further diligent research may prove or disprove this statement, although the 1933 G&H “used gun catalog” lists the arm by serial number and states: “…gun left on our hands by customer and never fired.”; perhaps after remaining unsold, ole Seymour picked it up himself. Nonetheless, Griffins or not, this is a super G&H Krag sporting rifle conversion with lovely Fugger engraving that likely shoots as good as it looks. (37022-25){ANTIQUE}[Mark Benenson Collection]

Fabulous German Doppelbuchsdrilling By A.F.W. Timner On Scalloped Boxlock Clamshell Action

serial #4360, 9.3x74R double rifle over 20 bore - all three bores are bright and excellent. This is a truly fabulous gun. The action is extremely strong featuring double underlugs, a Greener crossbolt and clamshell lugs. The gun features cocking indicators, sliding barrel selector on top tang, Greener side safety, both triggers are adjustable sets and there is a four cartridge compartment in the top comb. The action is engraved with tight scroll and game scenes depicting a bugling Red deer on left side, auerhahn on bottom and two roebuck on right side, the triggerguard bow shows a portrait of a roebuck and the hinged cartridge compartment shows a wild boar. The top of the barrel rib is engraved "A.F.W. TIMNER COBLENZ". The condition of the gun is wonderful with barrels retaining 98% original blue with double gold bands at the breech. The action retains about 95% original color case-hardened finish while the triggerguard and cartridge trap show a little more fading but still have lots of color showing. The checkered pistolgrip buttstock and forend rate excellent with 95% original finish remaining and with sharp checkering. The pistolgrip is quite sharp and long and the cheeks of the stock show lovely dropper points while the cheekpiece is long and graceful with a sharp upswept rear. The stock features an engraved steel pistolgrip cap and the buttplate is an engraved toe and heel style with finely checkered panel at the center. The gun features original sling swivels and is sighted with a beaded blade front with single standing and single folding rear sights. The interesting double rifle over shotgun configuration along with all of the bells and whistles in conjunction with the superb craftsmanship and condition, make this a truly special German drilling.
