CIVIL WAR HOSTAGES - Hostage Taking in the Civil War by Webb Garrison, White Mane Publishing Company, Shippensburg, PA, 2000, first US edition, hard bound no dust jacket, good condition, viii, 287 pages, illus, maps, bibliog., index. Anyone who regards the American conflict as having been civil in the ordinary sense of that term has only to read the hostage story to realize that in 1861-1865 conflict was uncivilized with no holds barred. Soldiers and civilians alike were targets of hostage takers; even females were not safe when a commander thought he could use hostages to forces concessions from the enemy. Ordinary citizens occasionally took men in uniform as hostages, and guerilla units on both sides captured enemy civilians whose names they didn't bother to record.

Biographer and children's book author Roger Lancelyn Green praised Ewing's works as the "first outstanding child-novels" in English literature.

White Stains by Aleister Crowley, Published by Brooklyn: Earths Religions Supplies (1970). Hardcover. Book Condition: Good. Scarce edition, hardbound. Privately Printed in the early 1970s - reprint of 1898 edition. White Stains contains various poems in both English and French which can also be regarded as individual works. The majority of these poems are overtly sexual in content. Crowley claimed that he had written White Stains for the purpose of rewriting Richard von Krafft-Ebing's Psychopathia Sexualis in a lyrical form. As with other works of Crowley, obscenity is celebrated.
