1937 LaSalle Sedan 4dr Convertible

Selling at No Reserve is a 1937 LaSalle Convertible Sedan (Titled VIN D255531). Grant Quam purchased this car at an auction on January 12, 1983. The car was consigned to the auction by Rader’s Relics of Orlando, Florida. The previous owner listed on the title is W.L. Smith of Doniphan, Missouri.
The description of the car from that auction’s paperwork is as follows: “Recent engine overhaul, new front end, new brakes, and new convertible top. Car has a factory radio and heater and original leather interior except seat skins. In excellent condition with 71,000 believed to be original miles.” This paperwork will be provided to the new buyer.
The car is in essentially the same condition that it was in, when Mr. Quam purchased it. Other than being used on a few car tours, it has been stored in the climate controlled building where he kept his better cars.
This would be a wonderful, comfortable car to participate in longer car tours.
The car is finished in black with a tan top, red leather interior and red carpet. It has a V8 engine with a 3-speed manual transmission. Dual side mount spares and rear suicide doors. The car appears to be original with maybe some minor touch ups or repaint. Car also has a heater, radio, and clock in the glove box door. There are currently 74,291 miles on the odometer. Mr. Quam referred to this as his Mafia Car.
According to the appraiser for this Car Collection, this car would be rated as a Strong Condition 3 on the Standard Grading Scale for collector cars.

1936 Graham Supercharged 4dr Sedan

Selling at No Reserve is a 1936 Graham Model 110 Supercharged 4dr Sedan (Titled VIN 100262). Mr. Quam purchased this Graham in the late 1980’s, from Neal Boyken, an antique car collector, who lived in Titonka, Iowa.
This is a reasonably Rare Car that appears to have been an excellent original car, to begin with. The car was repainted and reupholstered prior to Mr. Quam’s purchase. The work on the car is quite good. Perhaps not to Concours standards, but the workmanship is excellent and at the higher end of a driver-quality restoration. The car has always been stored in a climate controlled building since Mr. Quam acquired it.
The car is finished in a pleasing dark silver gray color with a dark blue cloth interior and carpet. It also has its original radio. It has a 6-cylinder engine that is supercharged and a manual transmission. The supercharger would definitely enhance the performance and improve the driving experience. It should be noted that the supercharger is not hooked up to the drive on the engine, at this time. The wheels are Artillery styled that are painted the same color as the car. There are also glass side wing vents. The odometer reads 26,300 miles. Other than servicing the mechanical components, not much is needed to make the car ready for touring. Runs and Drives.
According to the Iowa Public Television oral history that we have from Mr. Quam, this car would outrun a new Cadillac, in 1936.
According to the appraiser for this Car Collection, this car would be rated as a Strong Condition 3 on the Standard Grading Scale for collector cars. A very similar conditioned car sold at the auction during the Labor Day Auburn Cord Duesenberg meet in Auburn, Indiana, in 2013, for $66,000.

1925 Kissel Model 75 Gold Bug Speedster

You are bidding on a VERY RARE 1925 Kissel Model 75 2-Passenger Gold Bug Speedster (Titled VIN 751784). Mr. Quam was known for collecting rare and unusual vehicles and this one is no exception. The Kissel Kar was manufactured in Wisconsin by the Kissel Family, who where German immigrants that went from farming, to building cars. This low production and limited history made this car perfect for Mr. Quam's collection. He purchased this car in 1999 at the Barrett Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. In reviewing his files, Mr. Quam had a strong interest in finding a Gold Bug Speedster prior to the purchase of this car. There is much correspondence in the file where he was in contact with people from all over the country, before buying this car. He also has owned a 1914 Kissel “Semi-Racer”.
1925 was the first year of the 8-cylinder engine for Kissel cars and this Gold Bug Speedster came equipped with the 8-cylinder engine, which was a $300 option. This car was originally purchased from Kissinger Motor Company, 630 North High Street, Columbus, Ohio, on October 7, 1926. The original Bill of Sale clearly shows the car as a Speedster and all of this documentation accompanied the car when Mr. Quam purchased it in 1999. This documentation supports that this is an actual Model 75, 8-cylinder Gold Bug Speedster, not a re-bodied car. All mentioned documentation will go with the car when sold.
Notes along with the documentation indicate that the original owner was Harry Morrow of Columbus, Ohio. The car stayed in Mr. Morrow’s possession until 1953. The car was then restored by the second owner in 1958 and placed into storage in 1965. Eventually, the Kissel was sold to Dick Braund of Portage, Wisconsin. Mr. Braund was the founder of the company that built the Duesenberg II replica in the 1970’s and 1980’s. He restored the car again. In 1986, the car was sold to Robert Collins, Mayor of Portage, Wisconsin.
Mr. Collins sold the car in 1994 to Stanley Block, a well-known Kissel expert and restorer from Phoenix, Arizona. Mr. Block did a complete Ground Up Restoration of the car at his company, High Point Restorations, and showed it at the Pebble Beach Concours, in the late 1990’s. The car was then consigned by Mr. Block to the Barrett Jackson auction where Mr. Quam purchased this Pristine Car, in 1999. The restoration of this car has held up extremely well and the car has been stored in a climate-controlled environment since Mr. Quam purchased it. The car has been shown occasionally at different Concours including Amelia Island, 10,000 Lakes, Salisbury Concours d’Elegance, and the Milwaukee Masterpiece. The car has received Numerous Awards at these events. This is a Rare, Wonderful, Beautiful car that will be a Contender at any Concours where it is shown.
The car body is Medium Blue in color with Darker Blue fenders and is beautiful to view. It has dual Wicker Golf bags that have a few wood golf clubs inside. The car has the newly optioned 8-cylinder engine and manual transmission. The car has grey leather interior along with a grey top and cover. Woodlite headlights, a Kissel Motometer, Dual side mount spare tires, Side Steps, Glass Side Vents, Rumble Seat and a Rear Luggage Rack. Grey painted 24-inch wire spoke wheels with new tires. There are 65,563 miles on the odometer. Beautiful Rare car and would be a Grand addition to any collection or as an Investment car.

1922 Detroit Electric Model 90B

Selling at No Reserve is a Rare 1922 Detroit Electric Model 90B Town Sedan (Titled VIN 13154). The Detroit Electric Company started as the Anderson Carriage Company, in 1884 and turned into the Detroit Electric Company, producing Electric Cars starting in 1907. This was revolutionary at the time and because of this, the Detroit Electric name is being revived for cars being produced today. Mr. Quam purchased this 1922 Detroit Electric at a Collector Car Auction held in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on June 9, 1979. This car was part of the Jay Spaulding Gross Car Collection in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The car collection apparently was donated to Mr. Spaulding’s alma mater, Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
The car is mostly original and Mr. Quam drove the car on several occasions. The car has been stored in a climate controlled building since he purchased the car.
In 2010, the Quam Family put this car on loan to the Iowa Transportation Museum for the purpose of promoting the museum. For several months, a group of antique car enthusiasts, of many and varied talents, met once a week to re-commission the car. It was then used in various parades, tours and other activities to promote the museum.
The car was thoroughly serviced; all mechanical components were serviced and inspected, all fluids were drained and replaced; new tires, tubes and flaps were also installed. The upholstery was repaired where needed. The electrical systems were inspected; lubricated and cleaned along with new batteries being installed. Also, a new, compact on-board charging system was added to the car. The original charger will be included with the car.
This cars have seven 6-volt batteries in the front and seven 6-volt batteries in the back. The 14 batteries comprise a total of 84 volts available to run the car. The speed of the vehicle depends on how much voltage is fed to the motor. There are five “clicks” on the speed control arm to control your rate of speed. The car is capable of running about 25-30 miles per hour, on a flat surface. When going downhill, the car “free-wheels” so speeds can get up to 40-45 miles per hour, which is quite an experience when you are steering with a tiller! Mr. Quam always enjoyed telling that the car could go just as fast in reverse, as it could going forward.
The car has been driven successfully on two Red Flag Horseless Carriage Tours that are held annually in Southeast Iowa. The car performed flawlessly and has traveled as many as 90 miles in a day without recharging, almost equaling the distance a modern electric vehicle can cover on one charge. This is a very reliable touring vehicle.
The car is a combination of Dark Blue and Black paint. The car has wood spoke wheels with center hubcaps. It has a split front windshield with RED tinted glass on the upper section and Curved Glass in the back. It also has the Original Etched Glass Flower Vases on each side of the interior. Most of the paint on the body of this car appears to be the 1922 factory paint. The fenders were repainted years ago. 80% of the interior is original and any repairs that have been made, were with material that very closely matches the original fabric. There are some hail dings on the front and back decks, along with a repair to the front of the top. There are 7,968 miles that show on the odometer. This car is a very nice mix of completely original and extremely conservative restoration where needed.
This is a Beautiful Rare car and would be a Great Investment addition to any car collection.

1920 Peerless Model 56 4dr Roadster

You are bidding on a RARE ORIGINAL SURVIVOR, a 1920 Peerless Model 56 4dr 4 Passenger Roadster. (Titled VIN 264978). The car was originally purchased new by Peter Fank of Estherville, Iowa, in 1920. By 1918, Mr. Fank was farming in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Mr. Fank was 44 years old when he purchased this car. He drove it sparingly for 10 years, when the car was parked “on blocks” in a garage at the family home, in about 1930. The mileage of 21,597 is believed to be the actual mileage of the vehicle, based on its known history.
Mr. Fank died September 1, 1937 and the car remained “on blocks” in the garage at 402 South 10th Street in Estherville, Iowa, until the death of his sister Josephine in 1964. There was a newspaper article along with a photo when the car was “discovered” after her death.
William Harrah, owner of Harrah’s Club in Reno, Nevada, then purchased the car through one of his agents in 1964.
After Mr. Harrah’s death in 1978, Harrah’s Club was sold to Holiday Inn. All of the assets of Harrah’s Club (including the 1,400 cars in his automobile collection) were then owned by Holiday Inn. In 1984, this 1920 Peerless was sold at auction to Glenn Weatherford of Burleson, Texas. In January, 1987 Mr. Weatherford sold the car to Grant Quam and delivered it to Ames, Iowa. The title had never been transferred out of the name of Harrah’s Club when Mr. Quam purchased the car. The title provided to the new buyer will show Harrah’s Club as the previous owner. Also, the original plaque from Harrah’s collection is still with the car.
All supporting documentation for this car will be provided to the new owner, including the Harrah’s Placard, the 1964 Emmetsburg, Iowa, newspaper article from when the car was “discovered” after Josephine Fank’s death, the original 1937 Driver’s Licenses of Peter and Josephine Fank, along with Ancestry research done on the Fank family.
The car is in unbelievable It runs and need further work on fuel system to drive. Runs on gas IV. It would be a top contender in any Preservation Class competition. The car has been out of the public eye since it was sold by Harrah’s, in 1984. To illustrate just how original and untouched this car is, it still has the factory installed original white rubber radiator hoses on the factory V-8 engine. The original factory tool kit for this car is in the trunk, as well as the original air hose kit for airing up the tires. Peerless automobiles had an air compressor incorporated into the engine that was driven off the timing gear. While the photos of the car shows a single rear mounted spare tire with leather straps, there should be two spares mounted on the car. Mr. Quam does have the second spare tire and it will go with the car. This car has been kept in a climate controlled building since he purchased the car.

“They are only original once.” It is as if this phrase was written to describe this car. Finding a car that is this original is almost a once in a lifetime opportunity. Even Bill Harrah, who had his own extensive restoration facility, could not bring himself to restore such an original, well preserved car and had made the statement that of all the cars he had purchased over the years, this one was one of the most complete, original cars that he had ever owned. Bear in mind that this was back in the 60’s, when the conventional wisdom was to repaint and “fix up” cars like this. The concept of a Preservation Class for cars such as this, was still 50 years away!
All of the other attributes of this car when coupled with the history of ownership by William Harrah, makes the opportunity to purchase this car an event that only presents itself once in a lifetime.

1918 Peerless 4dr Limosine

Selling at No Reserve is a 1918 Peerless 4dr Limousine (Titled VIN 241471). Mr. Quam purchased this car on July 12, 1980, at the Estate Sale of Philip Hueter in Lytton, Iowa. Mr. Hueter purchased the car in 1967 from Gunnar Alric Osterling of Cherokee, Iowa, so this car has been in Iowa for over 50 years.
Few people in Iowa knew that Mr. Hueter had a car collection, let alone over 40 cars and 7 antique motorcycles ranging in age from 1904 to 1966. He was described as a loner that never married, spending winters in either Texas or Arizona. He died in 1967, at age 83, leaving the bulk of his estate to charity. The proceeds from this auction went to the Lutheran Church in Lytton, Iowa.
In 1916, Peerless began producing cars with a V-8 engine that produced 33.8 horsepower. This car has the V-8 engine and rides on a 125-inch wheelbase. The car runs on gas IV and needs to have tank cleaned and some other work to drive.
The list price of this car was $3,690 FOB from the factory in Cleveland, Ohio. The limousine was the most expensive Peerless automobile offered in 1918. This Peerless is equipped with an air compressor that drives off the timing gear on the front of the engine for airing up tires.
The car was repainted many years ago to what must have been its original Green color, but otherwise is in very original, unrestored and in presentable condition. Different plaques in the car indicate that it was driven extensively on car tours in northwest Iowa in the 1950’s and 1960’s. It still has the original interior, complete with jump seats and Green Brocade Velour-type upholstery. This was a very luxurious car; the interior comes complete with glass vases and vanities on both sides of the rear seat. The vanities contain mirrors, perfume bottles, etc. Also, has wood spoke wheels, rear mounted spare tire and rear suicide doors. The odometer on the car reads 49,466 miles. The car has been kept in a climate controlled building since Mr. Quam has owned the car.
According to the appraiser for this Car Collection, this car would be rated as a Condition 3 on the Standard Grading Scale for collector cars. With very little work, it could be a wonderful car to participate on car tours in style.

1913 Studebaker Model 25A Touring

Selling at No Reserve is a 1913 Studebaker Model 25A Touring Car (Bonded Titled VIN 310294). This car was purchased by Mr. Quam, in the early 80’s. A farmer from Roland, Iowa who lived near Mr. Quam, when he was growing up, originally owned the car. In the oral history given by Mr. Quam to Iowa Public Television in 1999, he talks about the car and seeing the original owner drive by their farm when he was a child.
When the farmer died there was an auction at his farm. One of Mr. Quam’s classmates, Mr. Larson was at the sale and when the opening bid started at $12.00, Mr. Larson bid $12.50 and bought the car. Years later, Grant Quam bought the car from his classmate. According to the Iowa Public Television interview, he paid his classmate several thousand dollars when he bought the car. Photos of the car after disassembly and before restoration, show that the car was very solid and complete with the original upholstery intact.
In the mid 1980’s the car was placed in a restoration shop in northern Iowa for a Ground Up Restoration. The result is a car that has won an AACA Junior first place, an AACA Senior first place and the Grand National prize. The car has only been driven on and off the show fields, since its completion. Runs and drives, but has not been driven recently. Runs on Gas IV. Mr. Quam loaned the car to the Studebaker Museum for display in South Bend, Indiana, for several years. Beyond that, the car has been taken to a few shows, but has spent most of its time in a climate controlled building, along with the other better cars his the collection.
The car body is Dark Sky Blue in color with a Black top and fenders. The interior seats are Black leather button tucked. The wood spoke wheels are painted the same color as the body. Running lights and sidelights run off an acetylene tank that is mounted on the side running board. The spare tire is mounted on the side of the car next to the acetylene tank. The engine is a 4-cylinder with a brass carburetor.
There is not a lot more to say about this car, other than he spent well over $20,000 in the 1980 restoration process. Its history with the AACA Senior Award, as well as being a Grand National Winner, tells the whole story quite well.
If you are a Studebaker fan, this could be the Crown Jewel to your collection. NO RESERVE!!
According to the appraiser for this Car Collection, this car would be rated as a Condition 1 on the Standard Grading Scale for collector cars, as there is virtually no deterioration of the restoration since it was completed. 1913 Overland 5 Passenger Touring

Selling at No Reserve is a wonderful restored 1913 Overland 5 passenger Touring Car (Titled VIN 13574). The car was purchased by Mr. Quam at the estate auction of David Tokheim, we assume in Eagle Grove, Iowa on August 16, 1992. A copy of the previous title indicates that Mr. Tokheim purchased the car from Lyle Lieder of Sioux City, Iowa, in 1969.
There is an auction receipt in the file on this car indicating that he purchased the car for $10,200.
This is a very nice Overland. It is an interesting combination of an original and a conservative restoration. The original Black leather interior is still very much intact and the leather is still very supple, especially considering that it is 102 years old. With some “re-stuffing” of the driver’s seat, the original interior would be quite serviceable and be more appropriate to the car at much less cost than a new interior. Also, features a beautiful wood steering wheel.
This is a “transition” car; it is the first year that brass was not used for the radiator and trim. The trim that would have been brass in the previous years is either painted or nickel plated. This was one of the last years for right hand drive.
The best thing about this car is that it appears that it has always been a complete car, not something that has been pieced together. It is obvious that this car was driven and enjoyed throughout its life. The restoration work done on this car has consisted of a very decent repaint and a new Haartz cloth top, both of which were apparently done years ago. All the accessories and “jewelry” appears to be with this car and is correct to the car. It is probable that all the accessories have been with this car since it was new.
The car body is Green with a Black top and Fenders. The wood spoke wheels are painted the same color as the car. It has a 4 cylinder gas engine and is Right Hand drive. the car turns over but have not proceeded to have running as time allowed. Needs some fuel system clean up. The running lights and sidelights run off an acetylene tank that is mounted on the side running board.
This car is the correct age to be eligible for HCCA events and tours. It is a large car that would be a wonderful and reliable tour car that is very nice, but not too nice to use and enjoy. The car has been kept in a climate controlled building since Mr. Quam has owned the car.

1912 Overland Model 51 4dr Touring Car

Selling at No Reserve is a 1911 Overland Model 51 4dr Touring Car (Bonded Titled VIN T513362). This car was one of the very first cars of Mr. Quam’s journey into the world of antique auto collecting. There are no records in the files about this car, other than the documentation for the restoration work that has been done to it.
The story goes that Mr. Quam bought this car from an Iowa State University Fraternity House. The car had been used for many years to power parade floats for the VEISHEA Parades. The reason the Fraternity was selling the car was that it had become difficult, if not impossible, to find tires for the car.
This car, along with a 1912 Model T Ford and a 1904 Holsman, were kept in the family garage at their home while their newer cars sat outside. While there is no exact date that he purchased this car, conversations with the family place the date at sometime around 1953.
The car languished for over 35 years until it was consigned to a restoration shop in the late 1980’s. Much work has been done to the car; all of the body and paintwork is done. The frame is painted a Yellow Cream, the body Red and the fenders are Black. It has been reupholstered in Black vinyl instead of leather, but is in the original pattern. All the brass for the car is there. The engine has been out of the car, but will be set back in the car before the auction. THE MOTOR IS IN THE CAR AND TURNS OVER, BUT NOT RUNNING YET. Its condition is unknown. All of the mechanical parts that belong on the engine appear to be with the car.
Basically, to put this car back on the road, it will need to have new wheels and rims along with tires. The engine will need to be rebuilt or thoroughly checked out. This vintage of Overland cars, were known to be good reliable automobiles for touring.
This is a project that would better be described as half full, rather than half empty. Many thousands of dollars have been spent getting this project to this point. If you want to get into an early brass car that is HCCA eligible, this is the car for you.

Selling at No Reserve is a 1957 Studebaker Supercharged Golden Hawk Coupe (Titled VIN PS5144). The car was purchased by Mr. Quam on February 18, 1979, from Horseless Carriage Shop in Dunedin, Florida.
Little is known about this car other than what is stated on the Bill of Sale when Mr. Quam purchased the car.
What we do know is that it has a Rare optioned continental kit installed on it. This is a very rare accessory and was supposedly one of only 8 cars that had this option installed. It has a factory installed Paxton supercharger on the 289 V8 and has an automatic transmission. RUNS AND DRIVES.
The car is finished in White and Gold paint. The paint, chrome and stainless are in very good condition, but showing some signs of age. The interior is quite nice and in very good condition as well, in what appears to be upholstered in the original vinyl and fabric material. The vinyl is white and the seats have fabric-patterned inserts. The carpet is Black. Engine Turned dash with a full set of factory gauges. Windows and door locks are manual and it has the original AM factory radio.
Mr. Quam did drive this car for a while before it was parked in a climate controlled building with all of his better cars. This car is running and driving and ready for the next owner to use and enjoy.
If you want a rare Studebaker with a lot of pizazz, this is the car for you.

Selling at No Reserve is a 1963 Studebaker Avanti Coupe (Titled VIN 63R1725). This 1963 Studebaker Avanti was purchased in 1971 by Mr. Quam from Larry and Alvin Krogstad of Harlan, Iowa. This is a very unique and unusual car that was built to compete with other muscle sport's cars of the era.
The car is White with the Rare optioned Tangerine interior that is original to the car. It is equipped with the original R1 289 cubic inch Studebaker V8 engine, a Borg Warner 3-speed automatic transmission and factory air conditioning. THE CAR RUNS AND NEEDS BRAKES. RUNS ON GAS IV, NEED FUEL TANK CLEANED FROM SITTING. New exhaust has also been installed on the car. Also, this car still has the original glass lenses over the headlights.
The mileage indicated on the odometer of 69,054 and is the actual mileage on this car.
In the mid 1980’s, the car was re-gelcoated and painted to the original White color. During that time, the engine was removed, rebuilt and re-installed in the car. The car has been stored in a climate controlled environment for most of its life. Due to being stored inside, the dash and steering wheel have NO cracks or shrinkage that you normally see on these cars.
The car has “Mag” wheels on it now, but the original factory hubcaps for the car are included, so it could easily be put back to stock.
In 1972, the car was driven to South Bend, IN, to the old Studebaker plant where the Avanti II’s were being produced at the time. At that time the Avanti II Company would allow you to run an original Avanti through their production line to have work done on your car. When this car was run through the line, drip rails above the doors, new rubber weather stripping as well as a new headliner were installed.

Selling at No Reserve is a 1959 Chrysler 300 E 2dr Hardtop. (Bonded Title VIN M591100517). Mr. Quam purchased this 1959 Chrysler 300E 2 Door Hardtop on January 29, 1979, from Merl V. Watschke in Minnetonka, Minnesota.
There is very little in the files about this car other than the Bill of Sale when Mr. Quam purchased the car.
This is a highly optioned 300E. It has Rare Factory Air, Power Steering, Power brakes and Power Windows. It is also equipped with Cruise Control, Automatic Headlight Dimmer and Swivel Buckets.
This 1959 300E came equipped with a 413-cubic inch Wedge Head engine, which produced 380 brake horsepower. This was the first year Chrysler adopted the 413-cubic inch engine and was fitted with dual quad carbs.
The car appears to be very complete. THE CAR STARTS AND RUNS AND MAY NEED MORE MECHANICAL WORK AND RECOMMISSION. The original wheel covers are with the car; the “300” doorsills are in good condition; complete original air cleaners are there. The car was originally a Rare Metallic Copper color but was repainted Red at some point. All of the original leather is in the car, but is deteriorated; the seats have been covered with black vinyl seat covers for many years.
The body appears to be quite solid. There is some rust present in the front floors of the car, just in front of the seat near the doorsills. The trunk floor appears solid. This would be an excellent candidate for restoration. Whoever buys this car will not have to spend mass amounts of time looking for “300E” parts, as they appear to be all there.
Fortunately, the car has been stored in a climate controlled environment for all this time. Good, complete 300Es do not turn up often. If you are looking for a 300E to restore, this is an excellent, honest car to start with.

1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner Retractable Hardtop

Selling at No Reserve is a 1958 Ford Fairlane 500 Skyliner Retractable Hardtop (Titled VIN G8W101687). Mr. Quam purchased this car from Lee Burris of Bradgate, Iowa, in about 1983.
Not much is known about the history of this car. After Mr. Quam purchased the car, he had it painted, a new interior installed and the engine was rebuilt along with new exhaust. Two of his two sons, both with degrees in electrical engineering, tackled the retractable top mechanism and made sure that the top operated properly. What we know is that the top was operating correctly in the 1990’s and that the car runs well. Not guaranteed, but did work at that time. After working on the top, one of the sons made the comment that he was ready to give his electrical engineering degree back to Iowa State University.
The motor is a 352 V8 and has an automatic transmission. THE CAR RUNS ON GAS IV AND NEEDS GAS TANK CLEANED AND SOME BRAKE WORK. The interior is Red and White Cream vinyl and the carpet is RED. There are manual windows and locks. It has power steering and power brakes. The car also has an AM Town and country Radio along with a clock. There is a taillight on the driver’s side that is broken. The odometer reads 65,151 miles.

The engine is now back in the car and it is a freshly rebuilt engine that has not been driven more than a few miles. There is a color patch in the paint on the passenger fender.
After all the work was done to this car, Mr. Quam, as was his pattern, was off to the next project and the car was parked in a climate controlled environment where it has been sitting until now.
The car is quite presentable and could be used and enjoyed just as it is after doing some minor mechanical work that maybe necessary after having sitting for so long.

1955 Cadillac Coupe Deville Series 62

Selling at No Reserve is an original 1955 Cadillac Coupe DeVille Series 62 (Titled VIN 5562111236). Mr. Quam purchased this car from Dr. Alan J. Ravitch in Orange, California in 1979. The car was originally owned by John Zofchak of Fontana, California.
Mr. Quam located the car through an advertisement in Hemmings Motor News. The ad in Hemmings indicated that the car had 80,000 miles on it. He flew out to California and drove the car back to Iowa, and according to the bills in the file, there were only minor problems during the trip back.
Mr. Quam used the car for a while, as he loved to drive it and then like several other of his cars, it was parked, never to be driven by him again. The car has been stored in a non-climate controlled building since the mid 80’s according to family members.
It has its original Blue paint that has faded a little over time. The chrome and stainless trim is complete and in good condition. There are some cracks in the paint and glass. The interior is all original and shows some wear. The seats and carpet are Blue with a White headliner. The car is FULLY optioned: Factory Air, Power Windows, Power Door Locks, Power Steering, Power Brakes, Signal Seeking Radio and Automatic Headlight Dimmer. The car is powered by a V8 and automatic transmission. I DOES NOT RUN AT THIS TIME AND CONDITION OF THE MOTOR IS UNKOWN. There are currently 91,588 miles showing on the odometer.
The car is a genuine California car that has never been exposed to an Iowa winter. It is very straight and very complete, down to the original GM air cleaner. It has, as they used to say, “Full Power and Factory Air.”
This would be an excellent car to clean up, get running and enjoy the way it is. If restoration of this vintage of Cadillac is your thing, then this is a perfect car to start with; low mileage and rust free with all the options.

Selling at No Reserve is a 1951 Chevrolet Deluxe 2dr Sedan Slant Back-Torpedo Back Sedan (Titled VIN 3JKB44976). Mr. Quam purchased this car in the late 1980’s from Neal Boyken, an antique car collector in Titonka, Iowa.
The car has registrations dating back to the early 1950’s when it was owned by the Boyken family. The odometer reading of 29,616 miles appears to be the actual mileage on this car. Along with the registrations, there are the original “hang tags” that went on the heater controls and the cards where the new car was inspected prior to delivery to the original owner.
The original interior in the car is in like-new condition. It appears that the car received a high quality repaint many years ago, but it is impossible to verify if this happened before or after Mr. Quam purchased the car.
The car is blue in color and the paint is in very good condition. It has fender skirts with wide white wall tires. The car has a 6 cylinder motor and automatic Powerglide transmission. RUNS AND DRIVES. The car runs and drives. The upholstery in this car is believed to be all original and is in excellent condition. The interior seats and door panels are done in a two tone gray cloth material and the carpet is a gray color as well. It has AM radio and clock. This is a beautiful car and would be a great addition to any collection.
This is no doubt one of the best examples of this year Chevrolet you will find. If you want a 1951 Chevrolet, you will look a long time before you would find one in any more pristine, original condition.

Since the car had been in the Southeast, it does not appear to have any rust issues. The original interior, dash and carpets are still very presentable and usable as they are. The seats are done in a Blue cloth fabric and the carpet is Blue color as well. The car has manual windows and locks. The paint is still serviceable and the chrome is decent, however there is some pitting on the pot metal parts. In all, cosmetically, it is car that could be driven and enjoyed as it is.
The engine is a 6 cylinder with the Factory-Equipped Supercharger. The top end of the engine is apart as it had a stuck valve. The engine work was never competed, so that still need to be done, but all the engine parts are in the trunk of the car.
The styling of these cars is somewhat unusual. The design of the car was quite a bit ahead of its time, but unfortunately, the company did not survive much longer after this car was built.
If you want something that is different than what everyone else has, this could be the car for you. With some mechanical work and a good cleanup, you could have a great car that will draw a crowd wherever it goes.

Selling at No Reserve is a 1974 Chrysler Imperial LeBaron 4dr HT (Titled VIN YM43T4C175027). Mr. Quam purchased this car on December 30, 1975, from Westrum Motors in Stratford, Iowa, a Chrysler dealer at the time.
When Mr. Quam purchased the car, it had travelled only 19,567 miles. This car has almost every imaginable accessory that could be put on an Imperial that year. It easily had to be the most expensive Chrysler that could be purchased for the 1974 model year. This was his personal car that he only drove very sparingly during the summer months in Iowa. It was never driven in the winter months during his ownership of the car.
The engine is a 440 cu in V8 and an automatic transmission. THE CAR HAS BEEN SITTING AND HAS OLD GAS. RUNS ON GAS IV AND NEEDS TANK CLEANED. NO BRAKES. The car is heavily optioned, including; Power Windows, Power Locks, Power Seats, Power Steering, Power Brakes, AC, Vinyl Top, Automatic Climate Control, AM/FM Radio, and more.
It is finished in black, with a black vinyl top. The interior is also black and as Ricardo Montalban used to put it in the Chrysler commercials, is finished in “Rich Corinthian Leather.” The leather is very posh, heavily padded diamond tufted. It is in beautiful condition, has always been garaged and for at least the past 25 years or longer, it has been stored in a climate controlled building.
The car currently has just 30,026 miles on it and these are verified to be the actual miles on the car. There is no damage history on the car and it does not appear to have ever been driven in any winter weather. The car is virtually a time capsule.
One of the best features of this car is the color combination. Triple black is a timeless color combination that never goes out of style. This car is guaranteed to make a statement wherever it is driven.

1937 Oldsmobile Business Coupe

Selling at No Reserve is a 1937 Oldsmobile Business Coupe (Titled VIN F723439). This car was purchased by Mr. Quam from Johnson Service Company, in Stromberg, NE. It is unclear when Mr. Quam purchased this car, but it is believed it was in the mid 1980’s.
Mr. Quam had a special connection with this model of 1937 Oldsmobile Coupe. During WWII, he lived in California and worked as an airplane mechanic. It was during this time that he had an accident that cost him the sight in his left eye. After he was injured, the family decided to return to Iowa, and they made the trip from California to Iowa in a car just like this one.
The engine was torn down many years ago by Mr. Quam to replace the rings and timing chain. While the engine is still in the car, that work was never completed. It is believed that all the parts necessary to do the engine work and put it back together, are in the trunk of the car. There is also new upholstery for the front seat (to replace the original upholstery) that will go with the car.

The odometer reading of 91,000 miles seems to be the actual mileage on this car. The upholstery on the front seat would seem to confirm this. The car was repainted Black at some time in the past and is not necessarily a show quality paint job, but quite acceptable if someone wants to drive and enjoy the car.
The car appears to be complete and the hard to find 1937 “jewelry” all appears to be there.

This is a very original car that has been repainted in the past. The body is Blue in color with Black accents and is still very presentable. There are two dents in the fenders, apparently from something falling on them. Those are the only flaws on the car. The top, fenders and running boards are Black. Wood spoke wheels, with the correct Plymouth center hubcaps. It has a rear mounted spare tire. The engine is a 4 cylinder with manual transmission. THE CAR FIRES, BUT HAVE NOT STAYED RUNNING. All the bright work is in good condition. The car still has it’s original mohair interior that shows some wear and fading, but is still in very presentable condition. Complete original dash and wood steering wheel. The car has rear suicide doors. There are 62,384 miles on the odometer, which is believed to be the actual mileage.
The car has been stored in a climate controlled setting for many years. The car runs, but will require some attention to the fuel and brake systems before it can be driven.
This is a very nice original car that should provide the new owner with years of pleasure with minimal work.

1952 MG TD Roadster

Selling at No Reserve is a 1952 MG TD Roadster (Titled VIN XPAG17694). This car was purchased by Mr. Quam in 1987 from Joe Caffrey in Boone, IA.. Mr. Caffrey had purchased the car in 1981 from Constance Baggetta in Sherman Oaks, California.
This car was restored, probably in California, before Mr. Caffrey purchased it. The car is still in excellent condition and runs and drives well. The restoration was very well done, however it is not painted in original colors. It is a two-tone metallic silver with darker metallic gray fenders. The color combination is quite pleasing and looks great on the car. The top and its and cover are black in color. Also, the side curtains are believed to be there as well. Cosmetically, there are no problems; all the chrome has been re-done, the top and interior are in very nice shape.
The car has the original 4 cylinder engine and transmission. RUNS AND DRIVES. Wood dash and rear mounted spare tire.
As with many of Mr. Quam’s cars, he drove this a few times and parked it the climate controlled building where he kept all of his better cars. The car was re-commissioned last year and should be ready for someone to drive and enjoy.
The restoration appears to be correct with the exception of the colors. The odometer reading of 86,753 miles appears to be correct for the car.
If you want a cute vintage British sports car to drive and enjoy, this is the car for you.

1934 Mercedes Heritage Model Replica

Selling at No Reserve is a replica of a 1934 Mercedes 500K built by the Heritage Legacy Company, that is stated as 1980 Mercedes Heritage Model (Titled VIN 1Q87G9N510448). This was purchased by Mr. Quam in the spring of 1999 from Richard Ledet of Des Moines, IA.
Little information is contained in the file for this car other than a photocopy of a previous title showing a man in Victoria, Illinois, as the previous owner. The mileage showing on the car is 17,421 and is believed to be the actual mileage.
Mr. Quam had a new top made for the car in 2001. He did drive this car around Ames for a couple of years after he bought it. He used it occasionally during good weather. Since that time, it has been stored in a climate controlled building.
There have been several Mercedes Replicas made over the years, ranging from the Gazelle that was powered by either a VW engine or an early Pinto drive train, to kit cars that were not very well made or practical do drive.
The Heritage/Legacy replica is by far the most drivable, comfortable and practical Mercedes replica made. This is not a kit car, but rather car made and assembled by the Heritage Legacy Motor Company in Ft Lauderdale FL.
These cars are based on a Chevrolet Camaro frame and 350 cu in engine, with a floor shifting automatic transmission. RUNS AND DRIVES. The stickers on the engine indicate that it was a new “Goodwrench” motor when the car was built. This car can be serviced by any Chevrolet dealer or any mechanic anywhere. Finding parts or service for this car will never be a problem. The car has fake flexible stainless exhaust pipes coming out of the left side of the hood, to mimic the original 500k Mercedes. All the chrome and stainless on the car are in good condition. The car has AC, power brakes, power steering, manual windows and locks with the spare tire mounted on the back. The Heritage car is still in demand and commands the best prices of all the Mercedes replicas out there. The car is a quite roomy, comfortable car to drive.
This car is finished in burgundy with a grey leather interior. The interior is very nice; there is some fading on the body burgundy color itself. It has wire cages over the chrome wheels that are hard to distinguish from chrome wire wheels. In all, this car runs fine (not sure about the brakes due to being in storage for sometime) and should be a very distinctive automobile with all the looks of a classic and none of the headaches.

Selling at No Reserve is a 1929 DeSoto Sport Coupe (Titled VIN KC183W). This car was purchased by Mr. Quam from a man in Thief River Falls, MN in 1979, based on correspondence in the file. That man dabbled in collecting cars and making hollow bodied guitars. By profession he was an industrial arts teacher there. The previous title for the car is in the name of Frank Skye of Plainfield, New Jersey, in 1963.
This appears to be a very solid, mostly complete car. Some of the mechanical components are disassembled, but there are many parts in the car and rumble seat area. The file on this car contains an original owner’s manual and a factory parts book. These items will be given to the new owner.
The car has wire spoke wheels with center hubcaps, dual side mounts, rumble seat, and a cloth top. The body is tan in color with dark brown trim and the interior has a brown pleather seat. The engine is a 6 cylinder with a manual transmission.
There are a few parts that the photos show are missing, but will be included with the car. These items include; both running boards, front bumper, the correct two piece rear bumper for the car.
There are many possibilities with this car. The car appears to be all original and an excellent candidate for restoration. Due to the condition and completeness of the car, it would be a very straightforward restoration. The other possibility would be as a basis for a very unusual, good looking street rod, or perhaps a combination of restoration and updated mechanicals. It is virtually a blank slate.

Selling at No Reserve is a 1956 Hudson Hornet 4dr Sedan (Titled VIN Y-7234). This is a car that Mr. Quam bought in the late 50’s and was used extensively as their family’s car at that time. It went on several family vacations to California to visit family and was really appreciated when crossing the desert, due to it having AC, which was not very common at that time.
The car is completely original and is painted in a two-tone white and green style of the era. The interior is original and the seats are a combination of green leather, with green fabric inserts. The seats are worn and have a few tears in them, as you would expect in a well used car from the era. There is some rust in the lower edges of the body.
It has a V8 engine, that is believed to be AMC's new 250 cu in 190 hp engine, that first became available the second half of that year, along an automatic transmission. The glass looks good except, for the wing vent on the passenger’s side is cracked. Features power brakes, power steering, the original AM radio, with a rotating roof mounted antenna, weather eye and factory AC. The odometer shows 80,374 miles that are believed to be accurate. The car as been kept in inside storage except for the first few years of its life.
