** CHARITY LOT **

Lot # 100 (Sale Order: 1 of 40)

Jason Plato race suit worn when winning round one of BTCC two seasons ago. Sold to raise money for Racing 4 MND - My name is Neil Cunningham and I was a professional racing driver for 27 years, and latterly a stunt driver for Top Gear Live. I also worked on the Bond movie Quantum of Solace. In 2010 I was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease. I have set up this website with the Heaton Ellis Trust to raise money to support research into this horrific disease and particularly to support the research conducted at Kings College Hospital by Professor Christopher Shaw and his team. Motor Neurone Disease has been described as the last truly incurable disease of the modern day. There are lots of incurable diseases, but MND is one of the most physically and psychologically challenging, and is rapidly progressive and fatal. It can affect ANY ADULT at any time and attacks the motor neurones that send messages from the brain to the muscles, leaving people unable to walk, talk or feed themselves. It seems to be the case that active and fit people are more likely to develop MND. Why this is the case is not yet known, and further research will help...more

1975 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 Mfi Coupe Race Car

Lot # 202 (Sale Order: 11 of 40)

The Porsche 911 Carrera RSR was introduced in 1973 with a 2.8 litre engine and was a development of the highly acclaimed RS Sport Lightweight, a homologated road car aimed at drivers who planned to use the car for occasional motor sport. The RSR, on the other hand made no attempt at being daily transportation, and was aimed specifically at racing teams who wanted an ‘off the shelf' racer to compete at the highest level including FIA Group 4 long distance endurance racing and Le Mans. Only 49 of the 2.8 litre engined cars were produced as factory built customer racing cars, making them some of the rarest Porsches ever made. For the '74 season, significant improvements were made to the RSR, with the introduction of a new, more powerful 3.0 litre engine, wider track which allowed for wider centre lock wheels, aerodynamic modifications and 917 brakes. These revisions translated to fine results on the race track, with 3 RSRs finishing in the top ten at the 1974 Le Mans 24 hours, and the Turbo car finishing 2nd overall. The Porsche you see today was originally a factory supplied LHD, 1975, 2.7MFi Carrera. It was later used as the perfect basis to build a Porsche to FIA RSR specification in 1996. This rebuild was carried out at great expense and with exceptional detail by HS Racing in Switzerland. The engine was originally built by Heini Schneebit using high butterfly injection, twin coils and all the usual RSR type mods used by Porsche to produce around 300bhp. Bilstein suspension was fitted on all corners and the car is fitted with 930 Turbo large front brakes.Well known in competition, and a competitive car in the hands of well known Porsche racer Nick Faure, who had raced RSRs in period for Porsche Cars GB, it won the Tour Espania in 2006, and later went on to win the Tour Britannia in 2008 and again in 2010.More recently the car has been refreshed by Mike Bainbridge who rebuilt the engine in 2012, and receipts are included for all these works including an engine spec sheet and a list of parts used. At the time of the engine rebuild he also rebuilt the gearbox fitting new Guard Transmission components, a complete new gear cluster, new crown wheel and pinion and a new Guard limited slip differential, and again invoices for these parts are included in the cars paperwork.Currently set up more for circuit racing than road rallies, the car has seen minimal usage since its mechanical refresh and as such is presented in very good condition all round.Accompanying the car is an old set of FIA/HTP papers as well as period German literature from the time of the car's import, along with invoices for much of the work undertaken on this fabulous Porsche. With the prices of standard Carrera 2.7s going stratospheric and genuine RSRs already sky high, today's guide price suggests this car represents excellent value in a buoyant market.

1957 Lotus Xi Series 1 Le Mans

Lot # 211 (Sale Order: 20 of 40)

In pursuit of ultimate performance, Lotus was one of the first motor manufacturers to truly investigate the effect of aerodynamics on a racing car, and thus in 1956 the Lotus Eleven was born. Colin Chapman recognised that aviation techniques could be applied to design and manufacture the bodywork, leading him to hire a De Havilland Aircraft engineer by the name of Frank Costin to commission an aerodynamic road car that was also capable on a circuit. The car was available in 3 various forms, from a Sports model with a 36 horsepower Ford engine, through the Club with a 75 horsepower Coventry Climax engine, up to the Le Mans Sports racer, which featured a 1,462cc Coventry Climax engine. We are pleased to offer this fabulous looking Lotus Eleven Series I, known by its original chassis number #384 and importantly retaining its original chassis plate. From a private collection of actively raced historic Lotus cars by our vendor, this car has been well maintained and used in his care and is one of the more desirable Series 1 models - the Le Mans Sports Racer.Purchased new in 1957 by a Mr Robert Haythorne from Performance Cars as a ‘Sports' model, this car found its way to New Zealand with its fourth owner, a Mr Don Jamieson who relocated there in January 1967. Photographs in the accompanying history file show Don with the car in that period, where he used the car on road and circuit. The second owner in New Zealand, a Mr Kevin Hardie, himself a Lotus Eleven mechanic in period, undertook a full restoration of the car.In 1991 the Chairman of the Lotus Historic Register, Mr Malcolm Rickets, acquired the car and brought chassis #384 back to UK shores, where is was to undergo a rebuild as a Le Mans model to full race specification. At this time, an MG gearbox was married to a 1,500cc Coventry Climax engine, whilst retaining the original aluminium bodywork and adding a removable Le Mans head-fairing for racing. During his ownership, Malcolm campaigned the car successfully on track, with all race preparation carried out by Macdonald Race Engineering and subsequently Mike Loughlin, when Malcolm's own race preparation team, Rickets Racing, was formed. Our vendor purchased the car from Malcolm in 2009 and has had the original registration ‘UNM 909' re-instated by DVLA so that it is, once again, proudly bearing this on its bonnet. As with his other historic Lotus cars, the present owner entrusted the car preparation to marque race specialists, John Danby Racing, and has campaigned the car successfully in many VSCC and other race events. Despite, by his own admissions being "well past his sell-by date", our vendor has frequently caused considerable embarrassment to much larger and more expensive machinery by regularly finishing well up the order! The car is currently in full race trim and fitted with a ‘top of the shop' Glyn Peacock Coventry Climax FWB 1490cc with all of the best available parts assembled on to a "New" FWB block. This gave a remarkable 124 bhp on the rolling road which equates to around 145-150hp at the flywheel. This engine has done less than 1 hours work, finishing well to the front at a recent televised Silverstone VSCC 40-minute Spring Start race. The passenger seat is present, but not currently fitted and spare front & rear wheels are included in the sale. The new owner of this car will have various options which might include a return once again to the circuit, sprints, hill climbs, historic rallying or simply enjoy the Lotus as a fast road car at the weekends. If the new owners do plan to take it racing they would be well advised to make sure that the car complies with current MSA and FIA regulations and should also satisfy themselves that all safety equipment complies, and is in date if required.Bearing its original registration, "UNM 909", this car is offered for sale in excellent competitive race trim and carries a delightful 25 year race patina on its original dark BRG body panels. With its superb history file containing many period shots of the car, old FIA and MSA papers, comprehensive receipts, race results and provenance, this well fettled car is once again ready to be used competitively, as was always intended by Mr Chapman.**The previous (rebuilt) Climax 1500 will be available to the purchaser by separate negotiation.** Photo Credit: James Gibson, James Gibson Photograpywww.jamesgibsonphotography.co.uk

The radiator grill was now surrounded by a cowl that blended into the bonnet. Front disc brakes became an option in 1959 and were standardised in 1960. From 1962 the engine utilised was the Triumph TR4 unit, which increased displacement to 2138 cc. In 1955 the less powerful 4/4 model re-appeared in Phase II form. The 96 in (2,438 mm) wheelbase of the Plus 4 was adopted by the 4/4 when it reappeared in 1955, after which the two cars were for most purposes the same length and width. This particular vehicle was built by the Morgan factory as a standard road-going car and originally dispatched to a Mr Thomas Haddon in Newcastle on the 2nd June 1954. It was actively campaigned in competition in period. Acquired then, by well known Morgan main agent and racer John Macdonald and developed as a replacement for his ex Lawrence / Shepard Barron +4 , 'PGP 123' (widely known as 'Choc Ices'). It was returned to the Morgan works and fitted with a super-light aluminium body and completely rebuilt to 1959 supersports specification using a very special all steel full race engine with twin 45 Webers, close-ratio gearbox, new 4.1 GKN differential, integral aluminium short and long racing fuel tanks, aluminium floors, sump, rocker cover, Alfin rear brake drums, original Lawrencetune manifold and rare chronometric rev counter with a tell-tale. In this form, it won its first race beating a field of rapid historic sports cars including a lightweight 'E' type, a Tojiero Buick V8 and assorted single seaters, including Roddy McPherson's Cooper Bristol GP car. It also came second to Ben Cussons Jaguar 'C'Type at Oulton Park. The current owner has had the engine completely rebuilt, fitted new wheels, clutch and a hardtop so that it can compete as a GT as well as a sports car. At the GTS Equipe race at Donnington Park, it was on the grid with the aforementioned 'Choc Ices' which it managed to lap! Finished in attractive 'Connaught Green' originally painted by John Macdonald (a colour Charles Morgan found so attractive it was latterly adopted as a Morgan colourway) this car comes complete with a comprehensive history file, and full HTP FIA papers (issued in June 2009) and ready to qualify again 'as is.' This is an important, rare and highly desirable sports car, recently serviced and ready to continue its competition career, eligible for all National and International events and with such a realistic guide price, surely an historic racing car worthy of closer inspection...

In November 1958, the Cooper Car Company launched the T49 MkI as the successor to the successful 'Bobtail'. 1953 Turner 1.5 Litre Sports Racing Car - Chassis 006

Lot # 215 (Sale Order: 24 of 40)

Here we have one of just 7 cars built by Turner Sports Cars between 1950 and 1954, one being an F2 car and the others sports cars. This example is chassis number 006 and was built in 1952 and first road registered in 1953. It was originally purchased by Wilfred McDougall of Wolverhampton, who raced it at a number of different circuits and hill climbs around the UK during the mid 1950s, including Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Mallory Park, Oulton Park, Shelsley Walsh, Castle Combe and Charterhall in Scotland. Turner 006’s full race history is still to be fully researched but race programmes in the history file for this early period of the car’s life include: Charterhall International in August 1953, Castle Combe in April 1954, Brands Hatch BRSCC and International in May 1955 and August 1954 respectively and Silverstone in August 1954. Although no evidence at this stage has been found linking 006 to Goodwood, it is interesting to note that two of its sister cars (Chassis 003/JDA 555 and Chassis 004/MAB 121) did race at Goodwood in period. Following McDougall's early racing with the car, 006 was then advertised for sale by him in the January 1956 edition of Autosport Magazine. Subsequently it was raced by Sid Diggory, Gerhard Krassner and Peter Hill amongst others, with the car being re-bodied by Gerhard Krassner in c.1960 with Rejo bodywork. It raced with this body during the early 1960s, in some instances actually entered as a Rejo, including when raced by Krassner on 14th July 1962 at Oulton Park. Krassner continued to race the car until 1964, when he sold it to Peter Hill, and replaced 006 with an HWM-Jaguar.In c.1968, Peter Hill decided to restore the car back to its original specification and was, fortunately, able to buy back the original body. By that stage, the well-known VSCC competitor Dr. Malcolm Brydson had acquired the original body from Krassner to fit to a Riley Kestrel Sprite chassis. Fortunately, Brydson had changed his plans and decided to race an Alvis instead and offered Peter Hill the original body in exchange for a collection of pre-war Norton Model 30 International parts. The car was then returned to its original specification and the Rejo body was sold and allegedly fitted to a Lotus XI. Peter Hill owned the car for almost 40 years, from 1964 to 2003, when it was sold to Ivan Dutton, the well-known Bugatti restorer and expert. Ownership of 006 was later transferred to a gentleman in Ireland who used the car in a number of displays and historic events in over there. An extensive history file and photo album documents a great deal of 006’s history in what has been a fascinating life for this rare British sports racing car. The current specification is as follows: - Chassis frame: 2x3 inch diameter 16 gauge T45 tubes with front and rear crossmembers. - Steering: Rack and pinion. - Suspension: Independent all round with lower wishbones and upper transverse leaf springs. Telescopic dampers.- Brakes: Magnesium alloy brake drums, 11 inches in diameter with mag alloy backplates. Twin leading shoes all round hydraulically actuated by twin master cylinders split front and rear. - Engine: 1.5 litre sports racing Lea-Francis with twin high camshafts and twin SU carbs. Mag alloy sump. - Transmission: 4-speed gearbox and ENV final drive. - Wheels: 16 inch diameter mag alloy carrying 5.50x16 Dunlop Racing R5 tyres. - Body: Aluminium alloy on a steel tube frame.Turner 006 not only boasts an impressive specification but is supplied with FIA HTP Appendix K papers and the VSCC buff form. The car has recently benefited from extensive work by INRacing in preparation for the 2015 season, including work on the engine, gearbox, brakes and running gear. The car has also had a roll cage fitted by Andy Robinson Race Cars at the beginning of 2015. The vendor describes Turner 006 as "ready to race", having only completed one race meeting (Silverstone in June 2015) since the race preparation work was completed.Usable both on road and track, Turner 006 provides an extremely eligible entry to some of the most prestigious historic motorsport events and series, including the Goodwood Revival, Le Mans Classic, the Woodcote Trophy, and the sportscar race at the Monaco Historic GP. It is also worth noting that a Kieft Turner competed in the 1956 Mille Miglia, so it is possible that Turner 006 could be considered for the current iteration of the rally, of course at the discretion of the event organisers.

1999 Williams-renault Laguna Super Tourer

Lot # 216 (Sale Order: 25 of 40)

Founded in 1977 by Sir Frank Williams and Sir Patrick Head, Williams Grand Prix Engineering Ltd. are a successful Formula One motor racing team and constructor. Winners of nine Formula One constructors championships and seven drivers championships their track record speaks for itself.Between 1995 and 1999 Williams designed, built and ran the works Renault Laguna entries in the British Touring Car Championship. Things started well, with the team taking the manufacturer's championship in their first year 1995, although 1997 was their best season by far, when they took 15 out of the 24 races and both the drivers and manufacturer's championships. Those were heady days when most of the cars on the grid cost over £1m to build and budgets of £3-5m to run each car for a season were not uncommon. Of all the manufacturer built cars in this period - it was the Williams Renault that was the most highly regarded. This car, chassis no.99/04, was the last ever chassis built and was prepared for ex F1 driver, Jean-Christophe Bouillon, to race alongside multiple champion, Jason Plato for the 1999 season. Nescafe were the main sponsors, and the cars were both distinctive and quick. Jason Plato secured an outright win for them during the '99 season, but ultimately Renault had decided to switch their focus back to Formula One and consequently pulled out at the end of the year.Currently, this car is a highly competitive entrant in the HSCC Super Touring Car championship and runs against similar period cars from Vauxhall, Peugeot, Nissan and Ford. Scoring regular podium finishes in 2014/15 the car is offered ready to race, some guidance in running the car will be freely available and a small spares package is included. This is a significant and rare car to own and race today.
