According to the Savage Arms "Savage Levers" serial number database resource, this Model 1899 (Model 99) .22 Savage Hi-Power cartridge lever-action rifle was produced in 1924. SPECS: Smooth walnut stock with oiled finish, grooved metal buttplate with Savage logo, blued receiver & barrel, drilled/tapped receiver top for scope bases, 20" barrel with recessed crown, dovetailed buckhorn rear sight, pinned blade front sight, loaded chamber indicator and internal rotary magazine. CONDITION: This rifle is in good condition with some wear & a repaired stock at the grip, has a nice sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order. HISTORY: The Savage Model 99, also known as the Model 1899, is a hammerless lever-action rifle that was produced from 1899 until the early 1990s. It used a unique rotary magazine and is considered the most reliable hammerless lever-action rifle ever made. It was popular with big game hunters and was even issued to the Montreal Home Guard during World War I. It was also used by American explorer Roy Chapman Andrews and missionary Harry R. Caldwell to hunt tigers in South China. By the end of production, Savage had sold the Model 99 in 58 different variations and special grade configurations.
