According to the U.S. M1 Carbine Serial Numbers production chart, this Winchester Repeating Arms Co. U.S. Carbine represents a production date of December, 1944. MARKINGS include: Crossed cannons on the right side of the stock, "WINCHESTER/ 6546498" on the rear receiver, "W" on the top of the barrel & on the receiver tang, "I.R. CO." on the rear sight, "KI" on the magazine and U.S. CARBINE/ CAL. .30 M1" on the receiver band. SPECS: 18" Barrel, dovetailed adjustable rear peep sight, square blade front sight with ears, green canvas sling, checkered metal buttplate, 15-round blued steel magazine and comes with a period correct cleaning kit in waterproof pouch. CONDITION: This rifle is in good original condition with battle wear, has an excellent sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order. HISTORY: Designed in 1941, the U.S. M1 Carbine was developed to bridge the gap between a pistol and a full-power battle rifle for use by rear-echelon troops, paratroopers, tank crews, and engineers. In 1941, with the U.S. being pulled into one of the greatest conflicts in world history, many U.S. manufacturers were tasked to switch production to support the war effort. Manufacturers tasked with M1 Carbine parts & production included - Inland Manufacturing (Division Of GM), Saginaw Steering Gear (Division Of GM), Quality Hardware & Machine Co., International Business Machines Corp (IBM), Rock-Ola Co., Standard Products, National Postal Meter, Winchester and others. It was widely used by U.S. military during World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. It also saw use by allied nations as a Lend-Lease weapon and by U.S. police forces during the 1960s & 1970s. SHIPPING - We offer free shipping anywhere within the continental US.
