Item Details

1952 WILLYS AERO WING. Restored inside and out. Runs and drives great. Rare find. THIS UNUSUAL SELDOM SEEN WILLYS AERO WING COUPE WAS MANUFACTURED BY WILLYS OVERLAND COMPANY IN TOLEDO, OHIO. ORIGINALLY AN MISSIURE CAR, BACKGROUND IN 1952 THE WILLYS OVERLAND COMPANY ROLLED OUT A NEW AUTOMOBILE AFTER A LONG ABSENCE FROM THE PASSENGER CAR MARKET. THE COMPANY HAD BEEN MADE FOREVER INFAMOUS FOR ITS CONTRIBUTION TO THE WAR EFFORT BY MANUFACTURING OF IT'S ENGINEERING MARVEL- THE JEEP. AFTER THE WAR, WILLYS OVERLAND CONTINUED TO BE INTRIGUED BY ADVANCEMENTS IN AVIATION PRINCIPLES INTO THE MANUFACTURE OF AN ALL NEW CAR. THE FATHER OF THIS ALL NEW CAR WAS CLYDE PATTON, A TALENTED ENGINEER WHO WAS HAND-PICKED FOR THE JOB, ND RECOGNIZED FOR HIS HELP IN GUIDING PACKARD TO GREATNESS. LESSONS LEARNED FROM AVIATION WAS TO PRODUCE A LIGHT (UNITIZED BODY) CAR WITH A HIGH POWER TO WEIGHT RATIO. VISUALLY CARRYING THE THEME WERE WIND SWEEP STYLING FROM FRONT FENDERS TO REAR RAISED "TAIL FIN" TAIL LIGHTS. TRUE TO IT'S NAME, THE CAR HAD ONE HORSEPOWER PER EVERY 28.5 POUNDS OF WEIGHT, MAKING IT THE HIGHEST HORSEPOWER TO WEIGHT RATIO OF ANY US-BUILT CAR IN 1952. THE CAR HAD A LOW STANCE STANDING ONLY 23" ABOVE THE GROUND. WILLYS OVERLAND WAS PROUD OF THEIR CAR, AND BOLDLY PRICED IT ABOUT $200 ABOVE IT'S COMPETITION FROM FORD, CHEVROLET AND PLYMOUTH.
1952 - THE ONLY YEAR OF THE WILLYS AERO WING. 1952 -THE LAST YEAR WILLYS OVERLAND EXISTED AS A COMPANY WILLYS AERO WAS PRODUCED ONLY AS A 2 DOOR IN 1952. TOP OF THE LINE WAS THE AERO WING WITH A SINGLE PIECE REAR WINDOW AND THE AERO ACE WITH A THREE PIECE REAR WINDOW. AERO LARK WAS THE ENTRY LEVEL CAR, THREE ENGINES AVAILABLE IN 1952. 6 CYLINDER OVERHEAD VALVE HURRICANE ENGINE 90 H.P. EQUIPPED ON WILLYS AERO WINGS.
THE WILLYS AERO WING SEEN HERE IS THE TOP OF THE LINE CAR WITH THE MOST POWERFUL ENGINE AVAILABLE, AND THE MOST DESIRABLE TRANSMISSION, 3-SPEED WITH OVERDRIVE. CERTAINLY ONE OF THE NICEST AND MOST ORIGINAL WILLYS AERO'S IN THE WORLD. EXTERIOR AND CHROME HAVE BEEN PROFESSIONALLY REFINISHED TO A HIGH QUALITY STANDARD. INTERIOR IS COMPLETELY ORIGINAL AND EXTREMELY NICE. THE ORIGINAL STYLE TIRES ARE VIRTUALLY NEW AND RIDE GREAT. THE UNDERCARRIAGE IS BEAUTIFUL. THE CAR LOOKS WONDERFUL ON THE SHOW FIELD OR CAN BE DRIVEN WITH CONFIDENCE. ORIGINAL OWNERS MANUAL, PACKET AND SALES LITERATURE GO WITH CAR. CURRENTLY STORED IN A CLIMATE CONTROLLED BUILDING.
