An outstanding example of a Cold War-era Soviet SKS rifle, this 1954-dated specimen was manufactured at the famed Izhevsk Arsenal and retains all the iconic features that make Russian SKS rifles so collectible. The rifle is cleaned, test-fired, and fully functional, complete with its original fold-out bayonet, a hallmark of the military configuration. Most notably, this rifle features a deeply stamped star cartouche with arsenal markings on the buttstock—a highly desirable collector’s detail that affirms its authenticity and original military issue status. The wood stock shows character from service while remaining structurally sound. The SKS (Samozaryadny Karabin sistemy Simonova), developed in the Soviet Union by Sergei Simonov, was first introduced in 1945 and saw service through the Cold War across dozens of allied nations. Chambered in 7.62x39mm, it was designed as a semi-automatic infantry rifle with a fixed 10-round internal magazine, known for its rugged reliability and ease of maintenance. Though quickly replaced by the AK-47 in front-line Soviet service, the SKS remained in widespread global use for decades and became an iconic firearm of post-WWII communist bloc militaries. Its classic design, integral folding bayonet, and hardwood stock have made it a favorite among collectors and military surplus enthusiasts alike. Original Izhevsk-marked SKS rifles in tested, functioning condition with stamped stocks are getting harder to find, especially with matching Cold War provenance.
