This French Darne sliding breech double barrel shotgun sports an SPC serial number prefix which was applied to guns ordered with special barrel lengths or features and were built and numbered out of sequence. There is no way to date this firearm from the serial number. However, this shotgun was imported to the U.S. by "Firearms Center Inc., Victoria, TX", which indicates an approximate 1970s import date. SPECS: Straight walnut stock with outlined checkering, casehardened sliding action with bright glossed finish, winged opener, 25.5" blued steel barrels that are choked very tight (smaller than FULL), pattern-style rib with brass bead front sight, black ribbed buttpad marked "LE FUSIL DARNE", dual triggers and checkered cross-bolt safety lever. This special order variation of a French Darne is believed to be a "one-owner" from an outstanding full estate collection, and it was a prized possession over many other very high value firearms. Any original order details have been lost in time. CONDITION: This shotgun is in beautiful condition with no wear, has perfect shiny/clean bores and appears to be in good working order. HISTORY: The Darne sliding breech shotgun, invented by Regis Darne in 1881, is a French-made shotgun that features a fixed barrel and a sliding breech system. Initially, Darne developed "hammer guns" with a rotating breech, but in 1897, he introduced the first popular sliding breech system. This system, which involves sliding the breech backward by pivoting a lever, was a commercial success and Darne shotguns won numerous awards. Regis Darne was a gunsmith from Saint Etienne, France, and began experimenting with different breech systems in the 1880s. The Darne sliding breech shotgun came in several models including the Halifax, R, P, and V. Darne shotguns, particularly the Halifax, were popular among duck hunters due to their fixed barrels and maneuverability. SHIPPING - We offer free shipping anywhere within the continental US. All firearms must be sent to an FFL (or C&R if applicable) regardless of age or caliber. This includes antiques & muzzleloaders. PLEASE READ ALL TERMS BEFORE PARTICIPATING: There is no live crowd, no phone bidding, no left bids and we do not accept payment through the mail.
