The serial number on the Marlin Model 39AS ("S"= cross-bolt safety) "Original Golden" rifle represents a 1993 production date. SPECS: Diamond checkered walnut stock with fluted comb & oiled finish, black grip cap, gold filled barrel address & serial number, brown checkered rubber buttpad with embossed horse with rider logo & black/white spacers, gold trigger, 24" Micro-Groove barrel, Williams receiver mounted fully adjustable peep sight, dovetailed adjustable elevator semi-buckhorn rear sight, hooded ramped front sight, sling studs, 19-round tubular magazine, drilled/tapped receiver top for a scope base and quick take-down screw on the right side of the receiver. CONDITION: This rifle is in beautiful condition with no wear to speak of, has an excellent sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order. HISTORY: The Marlin 39A is the oldest and longest continuously produced shoulder firearm in the world. It started life as the Marlin Model 1891, the first lever-action rifle ever chambered in .22LR, and the magazine was loaded through a conventional side gate in the receiver. Due to updates, it became the Model 39 in 1921, and Model 39-A in 1939. Since the early 1950s, Marlin has used their proprietary Micro-Groove rifling in the Model 39A. This rifling uses many small lands and grooves rather than 2, 4, or 6 deeper grooves used by the majority of rifle makers. The rifling is also made to a 1 in 16" right hand twist. The combination of these two factors arguably adds to the accuracy of the rifle, and indeed the 39A's reputation would seem to bear this out. The Golden 39A is still considered one of the finest examples of a lever .22 rifle, and one of the most accurate .22 rifles ever produced. SHIPPING - We offer free shipping anywhere within the continental US. All firearms must be sent to an FFL (or C&R if applicable) regardless of age or caliber. This includes antiques & muzzleloaders. PLEASE READ ALL TERMS BEFORE PARTICIPATING: There is no live crowd, no phone bidding, no left bids and we do not accept payment through the mail.
