Superlative quality side-by-side double barrel boxlock shotgun chambered 2 3/4” 12 gauge shells. Manufactured in Philadelphia, PA .The gun was shipped on July 16, 1914 to Union Hardware & Metal of Los Angeles, CA. The "XE" grade shogun sold for $100.00 in 1914. Features blued 30” barrels (Marked Krupp Steel, Essen) with raised & matted concave rib & Full/Full chokes, ejectors, Lyman ivory bead front sight & mid-bead, oak leaf pattern hand engraving with duck, grouse & fox game scenes on the receiver with each side having game scenes in an oval with "Ansley H. Fox".The fox is located on the bottom of receiver. (Conceived by Fox engraver William Gough around 1913) Checkered top lever, sliding tang safety, Miller trigger using a single selective trigger with a rocker in front of the trigger as the selector. Splinter forend with fine point checkering & engraved Deeley release, and beautifully figured walnut pistol grip shoulder stock with fine point checkering, black grip cap and vented Hawkins rubber recoil pad with black spacer. Stock measurements: Length of Pull – 14 1/8” and Drop at Heel – 2 3/4”. The barrels retain nearly all of their bluing showing some handling wear and a patch of very light pin-prick pitting on the lower left barrel. The case colored receiver shows traces on the water table and under the lever while the balance of the metal surfaces exhibits a silver/grey patina, engraving is sharp. The action is mechanically sound, the bores are excellent/bright, the markings are very good, and the figured walnut stocks are fine with some handling wear to the checkering. Serial number is matched on the lower tang, water table, underside of barrels and the inside metal of the forend, Included is a 2008 dated letter signed by J.T. Callahan, Arms Historian on A.H. Fox shotguns confirming all the above information with the exception of the Silvers recoil pad, which was replaced with a Hawkins at some point. NRA Condition-Good. C&R Firearm.
