Anglo-Indian 19th Century Exotic Composition Sadeli Mosaic Calling Card Case - This is an exceptional 19th-century Anglo-Indian calling card case, crafted with a checkerboard Sadeli mosaic inlay of exotic composition, a traditional decorative art form originating from regions like Bombay and Lucknow. The intricate surface features alternating patterns of textured linear engraving and dot-pierced floral motifs, assembled in an intricate geometric pattern. The case opens with a hinged lid and retains its original interior lining. The overall aesthetic and craftsmanship suggest it was made for export during the British colonial period, when such objects were popular souvenirs among European travelers and dignitaries. A rare and decorative example of cross-cultural craftsmanship from the British Raj period, highly collectible and increasingly scarce. Measurements: 4.25 x 3 x 0.50 inches. Condition: Good overall. Some minor surface cracking and lifting to a few panels, consistent with age and use. Presents beautifully despite minor imperfections. AUCTION NOTE: This item comes from the estate of Prince Lorenzo de' Medici of Italy. Prince Lorenzo de' Medici from the Medici family of Italy is an internationally recognized artist and a businessman, who has traded more than half a billion dollar in the art in his career. His father is Alessandro de' Medici who is descended from the famous Florentine Family. Ancestors of the de' Medici family include three Popes: Leo X, Clemente II and Pius IV, and two French queens: Mary and Catherine de' Medici. Each lot will include an appreciation letter from Prince Lorenzo for participating in his family's auction. Shipping Note: This item is located in Orlando, Florida. Shipping will be at the expense of the buyer. The auction house will ship in-house or help facilitate shipping arrangements, if necessary.
