Rare example of a British military pattern 1800/1810 Baker flintlock infantry rifle, dating from approximately 1800 to 1815. This .70 caliber rifle features a 30.25" rifled browned twist-iron barrel with a patent breech. The left side of the breech bears remnants of a TOWER proof mark. Originally fitted with a bayonet bar, the bar later modified to accept a socketed bayonet, a period alteration. The rifle remains in flintlock configuration (see notes below for details). The flat lock is marked internally with “GILL,” indicating manufacture by the contractor to the Tower Ordnance. External markings include a small crown over broad arrow (denoting government ownership), a crown over “GR” (for King George III), and “TOWER” stamped at the tail of the lock. The rifle retains its standard all-brass pattern furniture, including the butt plate, which is regimentally marked "B / 52." The original steel ramrod is also present and bears the matching regimental mark "B / 52." The walnut stock displays several period military markings, including the British broad arrow over "BO" (Board of Ordnance) located on the right side ahead of the brass patch box. Additional markings include two inspector's stamps at the tail of the trigger guard, a crown over "P," and an "L" on the left side of the stock, just behind the side plate. Size 45 7/8" L, Barrel 32 1/4" L. Condition: Good condition overall with sling swivels absent and likely period removed. Middle barrel key/ wedge absent.. Provenance: Ex-Southern California Collection
