Excellent condition - pistol - 5" barrel - PRISTINE AND DOCUMENTED NAVAL COMMANDER OF WWII - brown checkered plastic grips; both grips remain in Excellent condition with very little visible wear - retains about 98%+ finish with minute loss to sharp edges and very little other visible wear - in-the-white throat - Markings: crisp & legible- large "G" underneath barrel just in front of lug, "COLT 45 AUTO" on barrel, left side of frame marked with "P" just behind and below the magazine release button & "W.B." in a square just behind the slide stop representing Waldemar Broberg and his inspector mark #3 - left side of slide marked "PATENTED APR. 20,1897.SEPT.9,1902/DEC.19,1905.FEB.14,1911.AUG.19,1913", Rampant Colt trade mark, and 2-line Colt address - right side frame marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY/NO 818589" & "M1911A1 U.S.ARMY" - "P" on top of slide - verified proof and final inspector's mark on trigger guard bow - Sights: fixed - accompanied by a Colt factory letter that documents this pistol to have been sold to the United States Government and was one of 4300 shipped to Commanding General at Springfield Armory Massachusetts on the 4th day of September 1942. Two hand written letters document this M1911A1 to be property of a decorated Commander Donald Briggs of the USNR during WWII. Excellent mirror like bore, appearing fired very little - magazine shows very little use - mechanics appear to be in good working order. - Yr. Mfg.: 1942 - SN: 818589 - C&R - 75523
