Year of Manufacture: 1967 (Colt Serial Lookup)

Caliber: .45 Colt (.45 Long Colt) & .45 ACP (Extra Cylinder Included)

Action Type: Single Action Revolver with Side-Loading Gate Cylinder

Markings:
The left side of the barrel is marked “COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .45”. The top of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.”. The left side of the frame bears the two-line Colt patent dates and Rampant Colt logo. The serial number “44174SA” is clearly marked on the underside of the frame. The additional cylinder is factory-marked “.45 ACP”.

Barrel Length: 5 ½”

Sights / Optics:
The front sight is a fixed blade. The rear sight is a square notch integral to the top strap.

Grip Configuration & Condition:
Currently fitted with genuine pearl grips featuring an engraved Longhorn steer head on the right grip panel. These custom grips are in Excellent condition, showing minimal handling marks, with no chips, cracks, or notable damage.

Also included are the original Colt black checkered hard rubber grips featuring Rampant Colt logos and American Eagle motifs, carefully stored in a protective bag. These original grips remain in Perfect condition.

Type of Finish: Case-Colored Frame with Blued Barrel, Cylinder, and Grip Frame

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition:
The bore is bright, and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition:
This revolver retains approximately 99% of its original Colt factory finish. The frame displays vivid original case coloring, and the barrel, cylinder, and grip frame exhibit deep, rich original Colt bluing. Remarkably, there is no cylinder turn line. The surfaces show only minimal handling and storage marks. Screw heads are sharp and unmarred. All factory markings remain crisp and clearly defined. Overall, this revolver rates in Excellent condition.

Mechanics:
The action functions perfectly. Cylinder lockup is tight and positive, the hammer has the distinct four-click action, and the trigger pull is crisp. The .45 ACP cylinder also fits, indexes, and locks properly. We did not fire this revolver. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories:
Included is the additional factory Colt cylinder chambered in .45 ACP, clearly marked and properly fitted. Also included are the original Colt black hard rubber grips, carefully stored in a bag and in perfect condition.

Our Assessment:
The Colt Single Action Army, known as ""The Peacemaker,"" remains one of the most iconic and collectible firearms ever made. Second Generation revolvers (1956–1974) represent some of the highest standards of Colt’s craftsmanship, sought after by collectors and enthusiasts alike.

This pristine example from 1967 is especially notable due to its dual-caliber versatility (.45 Colt and .45 ACP), vivid case colors, exceptional bluing, and distinctive pearl grips with an engraved Longhorn steer head. The presence of original grips still in perfect condition further adds to its collector appeal.

Remarkably, this revolver shows no cylinder turn line—an indication of extremely limited or careful handling. It represents an ideal investment-quality firearm for Colt collectors or any enthusiast appreciating superb craftsmanship and historical significance.
