Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The single-action trigger is crisp. The cylinder locks with barely perceptible play on each chamber. We did not fire this revolver. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a modern Colt manufactured replica of the company’s Model 1847 Walker, a .44 caliber single-action percussion revolver. Introduced just in time for the Mexican-American War, this model gained fame through its association with Samuel Hamilton Walker, a U.S. Army captain who helped Samuel Colt design the revolver. Ironically, Walker himself carried two of these formidable revolvers into battle, though he was tragically killed during the conflict in 1847—the very year his namesake revolver was introduced.

This particular Colt Walker reproduction exhibits exceptional craftsmanship, highlighted by the intricate battle scene etched onto its cylinder, originally created by renowned engraver W.L. Ormsby Sr. The revolver also proudly bears Samuel Colt’s own signature engraved upon the backstrap. Retaining nearly all of its original finish and remaining mechanically sound, it represents a unique opportunity for collectors interested in historically significant firearms.

As a noteworthy historical recognition, the Model 1847 Walker has recently been declared the official handgun of Texas by Governor Greg Abbott. Whether you are a dedicated collector of Colt revolvers, a historical firearm enthusiast, or a proud Texan, this Walker reproduction will undoubtedly be an impressive addition to your collection.
