Yates Township, Michigan sits along the southeastern edge of Lake County and is best known for the historic community of Idlewild, which surrounds the lake that shares its name. The headwaters of the Pere Marquette River flow through the area, with convenient public access points near Broadway Road.

The Pere Marquette, Pine, and Little Manistee Rivers are among Michigan’s 16 designated National Wild and Scenic Rivers. These rivers and their many tributaries offer beautiful settings for scenic canoeing, and even feature stretches suitable for whitewater kayaking.
Lake County is also home to vast public lands, with the Huron-Manistee National Forest and Pere Marquette State Forest covering over 48 percent of the county. These forests provide endless opportunities for hiking, hunting, birdwatching, cross-country skiing, and wildlife viewing.
