serial #5410, 20 ga., 27 5/8" damascus barrels with bores that show some areas of pitting. This shotgun is listed in the Parker Pages as the earliest surviving 20 gauge Parker, however there is one other 20 bore listed that is a lower number #4634. The gun has all matching numbers and the barrels are still touching at the muzzle so we feel comfortable that they were only shortened from 28". This is a "field" grade gun with no engraving other than the makers name on locks and the barrel inscription which reads from action to muzzle "PARKER BROS. "MAKERS" MERIDEN "STUB TWIST". The shotgun features a key fastened forend with the decorative raised bead at the front of the steel forend tip along with a round knob pistolgrip and smooth steel shotgun buttplate. The barrels show strong twist pattern their entire length and appear to have been very nicely re-browned at some point over the years. The action and locks show a mix of silver faded case-hardening and an even gray patina. The metal remains smooth and is free of pitting. The stock and forend are of nicely figured walnut, were never checkered and rate very good with old wear and some light added finish present. The wood has a very nice and honest appearance. The shotgun comes with a set of non-Parker fluid steel barrels which have been fit to the gun and the gun and extra barrels come together in a nicely made partitioned walnut case with cleaning rod and other cleaning implements. A rare and very early small bore Parker lifter made before L.C. Smith & Ansley Fox had even set up their shops. (18321-5) {ANTIQUE}
