Item Details

* Exquisite Cased Deane, Adams and Deane, "A Maharaja's Treasure" Model 1851, .52 cal, s/n 1506, black powder revolver, brl length 7 3/4" octagonal, excellent condition, double action. In 2004 this exceptional cased set was featured on the cover of "MAN at ARMS" volume 26, number 4 where it was titled "A Maharaja's Treasure". The write up is on page 5 and it was decided that the cover photograph wasn't enough for this valuable treasure so they featured another full page of photos on page 54. An original copy is included in the sale. The article states [ "A Maharaja's Treasure." An Adams patent percussion 5-shot .52 caliber self-cocking revolver in pristine, unfired condition with a 7 3/4 - inch, full-octagon barrel. The top strap is marked "Deane, Adams and Deane. Makers to H. R. H. Prince Albert. 50 King William Street, London Bridge." All metal surfaces of the revolver are covered in a fine gold inlay added in India after its manufacture. The grips are of one-piece carved ivory inlaid with 19 cabochon pigeon-blood rubies of the finest quality. All seven accessories cased with the gun are of carved ivory matching the carved ivory style of the grips. The larger carved cap box accessory is lined with pure leaf gold. ] No words can describe the sheer beauty of this revolver and its accessories. They are all fitted into a partitioned green felt lined dovetailed walnut chest with a hinged spiral ring for opening. The case does show slight separation on the right side of the lid with minimal overall wear. The cased set includes the revolver, large ivory cap box, small container, nipple removing driver, flat blade, cleaning rod, powder flash and weight with a slightly damaged finial. There is also a "W. TRANTER'S" marked brass two bullet mold, a wire brush and barrel swab, key and eight bullets included. The relief carved ivory grip is in the form of flowers with the cabochon pigeon-blood rubies being set in the contour as if they were the stamen and being retained in place by gold ring bands. There is a trapdoor in the base of the grip cap, when opened it reveals the third location of the serial number. The first location is on the front of the grip strap and the second is on the rear of the cylinder. Nearly 95% of the metal on this revolver is covered in some pattern, form or shape of gold using floret, scroll and wondering line work. This is truly a majestic revolver suited even for a King. Do not let the opportunity to own such a specimen pass you by.
