DESCRIPTION OF SPURS:
Outstandingly detailed cast silver eagles head pair of U.S. Civil War Officers spurs w/ an overall length of 5.5" & overall width of 3-1/8". Both are inscribed "Saml P. Walker to Genl J.C. Veatch".

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF DOCUMENTATION/HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE:
GENERAL J. C. VEATCH:
  • Born: Dec. 19, 1819
  • Died: Dec. 22, 1895
J. C. Veatch served as a Colonel in the 25th Indiana Vol. Infantry & participated in the battle of Fort Donelson, Tenn., Kennasaw Mountain, the battle of Shiloh, the Siege of Corinth & was seriously wounded at the battle of Hatchie River. He later joined General Shermans forces for the Atlanta Campaign (Resaca, Dallas & Kennesaw Mountain). When mustered out, he had attained the rank of Brigadier General.

GENERAL J. P. WALKER:
  • Born: Oct. 19, 1822
  • Died: Feb. 6, 1893
Samuel P. Walker was elected Colonel of the 4th Kansas Cavalry in 1856. Has was a Deputy U. S. Marshal & later Sheriff of Douglas County, Kansas from 1857-1862. Walker was then commissioned to Captain of Co. F 1st Kansas Vol. Cavalry seeing service at the battle of Wilsons Creek. He was promoted to Major of the 5th Kansas Vol. Cavalry, the Lt. Colonel of the 16th Kansas Vol. Cavalry at at the Wars end, promoted to Brigadier General on March 13, 1865.
