Official 18th-century French document dated February 18, 1781, issued in Montpellier under the authority of Jean-Emmanuel de Guignard, Vicomte de Saint-Priest, royal Intendant of Justice, Police, and Finance for the Province of Languedoc. This decree grants permission for a local peasant to replant vineyards on previously cultivated land, following expert verification and in accordance with the royal edict of June 5, 1731, which restricted vineyard expansion without royal approval. Printed and manuscript-filled on watermarked laid paper, the document includes: The royal arms of France at top center A printed form completed in elegant 18th-century French cursive Official reference to King Louis XVI’s royal ordinances Final lines signed “Par Monseigneur” with original signature beneath An exceptional example of Ancien Regime administrative governance, this document reflects state control over viticulture, rural land use, and regional legal practices in the years leading up to the French Revolution. 13.2" x 17" in. And Original late 19th-century British travel document issued by the Foreign Office in London on October 11, 1899, under the reign of Queen Victoria. The document grants permission and requests all concerned to allow Mr. Fred Smith (a British subject) to “pass freely without let or hindrance” and to provide him with necessary assistance and protection. 11" x 7.6"
