This is a German WWI-era Imperial Commemorative Flyer’s Badge, issued by the Kingdom of Prussia to retired flight crew members of the German Army Air Service (Luftstreitkräfte) during the First World War. Designed to honor aviators who had completed their active duty, this badge features the classic Prussian flying eagle clutching a swastika, framed by a laurel and oak wreath, and typically constructed in silvered or gray-toned metal. Unlike the wartime pilot’s qualification badge awarded during active service, this commemorative version was reserved exclusively for those who had formally left flight duty, making it both rarer and highly collectible. These badges were worn on civilian dress or uniforms post-service, and today serve as historical reminders of Germany’s early military aviation and the elite status held by its wartime pilots.
