serial #17857, 8mm Nambu, 4 1/2" barrel with bright near excellent bore showing just a little frosting and a few tiny pits. The metal surfaces of this April 1936-made pistol retain about 72% original blue with some high edge and operational wear, some thinning to silver and scattered pinprick pitting along the barrel and forward of the ejection port, a safety mark and scattered freckling and minor pinprick pitting throughout. The gripstraps are toning to brown with some oxidation staining, minor pitting and the lanyard ring shows some oxidation staining and pitting from contact with the lanyard. The trigger, safety, magazine release and trigger bar retain some faint original straw colors but have mostly toned to silver with mottled gray freckling. The grooved Asian hardwood grips are pencil-numbered to the pistol and remain in very good plus condition with much of the original finish remaining and a few scattered dings, handling marks and small chips. All serialized parts on this pistol are matching although the firing pin and its extension are not numbered. The pistol includes two correct nickel-plated magazines with the single top magazine cutout and remain in very good condition with some minor operational wear although they are both numbered to other pistols, 864 and 109. The pistol wears an original tan canvas lanyard that remains in very good plus condition with strong stitching and some minor scattered staining. An original brown leather clamshell holster with extra firing pin and cleaning rod is also included and remains in near excellent condition with a few minor scuffs, scratches and handling marks scattered throughout and some verdigris around the brass hardware and the un-numbered spare firing pin and cleaning rod are likewise in near excellent condition with some minor patches of light oxidation staining. Overall a very nice grouping that represents a nearly complete early Japanese pistol rig. (138436-6) {C&R}
