Item Details
Montana Bronze "Defiance" by Jim Pasma, 22 in. tall w/base, 6/25, 1979. JIM PASMA (1933-1999) was born and raised in Montana on a farm and ranch near the Canadian border, an area rich in Indian lore and traditions from its recent pioneer past. His Montana home was only a few miles from two Indian Reservations under the same Big Sky often painted by Charles M. Russell. Pasma's talent developed naturally without the influence of formal art training, with encouragement from his father and elementary school teachers. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps 1952-1955 and was engaged in small business and public service for many years, before going into full time work sculpture work in 1970. Only ten years after the first public showing of his work in 1964, he attained national recognition, when his bronze "Of Kings Uncrowned" brought the highest price for the work of a living sculptor at the C.M. Russell Art Auction in Great Falls, Montana. Pasma bronzes today are seen in permanent collections of several museums and have been selected for display in a number of major buildings, such as banks, libraries, and clubs.
