A rare matched pair of Egyptian faience canopic jars representing Imsety and Qebehsenuef, two of the Four Sons of Horus, dating to the 21st–22nd Dynasties (circa 1070–712 BC). Both jars are finely modeled in pale blue-green faience, with stylized heads: Imsety, the human-headed protector of the liver, and Qebehsenuef, the falcon-headed guardian of the intestines. By this time in Egyptian funerary practice, the use of functional canopic jars had largely declined, replaced by “dummy” jars and votive substitutes—ceremonial objects intended to preserve symbolic continuity rather than physically contain the viscera. This pair likely served such a ritual or symbolic purpose, representing the protective powers of the deities in tomb contexts.
