Item Details
This Larger sized Automaton Singing Bird Cage, Meas. 22" Tall, and Was made by the Famous J. Phalibois of Paris France. It is all original, and in Working condition. All functions work properly, even the bird's beak is timed to move with the chirping song. On the bottom of the Cage is a Label From Pope and Sons Auction Gallery on Hammersmith. The label states that this Piece was part of the Auction, held in 1932, to sell items from the collection of the Honorable Dame Eva Anstruther. Anstruther (1869-1935) Was the oldest child of the 4th Lord of Sudeley. She grew up in Gloucestershire, at Toddington Manor. She was a successful Writer and Poet. She became a Dame Commander of the Order of The British Empire, (Female equivalent to Knighthood) in 1918, for her service in WWI.
