A group of Four Ancient Metal Attachments from the Roman or Early Byzantine period, likely dating from the 3rd to 6th century A.D. These small fittings were designed to be affixed to ropes, cords, or textile bindings, either on uniforms, ceremonial garments, or equipment. Their reflective surfaces served both functional and decorative purposes, catching the sun to provide visual flair and status signaling. The set includes three rope or strap mount ornaments and one button-like decorative fitting, all exhibiting original patina and surface wear consistent with ancient use. These artifacts speak to the subtle details of Roman and Byzantine material culture, where even utilitarian objects were embellished for visibility, hierarchy, and distinction. An attractive and unusual grouping of history for collectors of ancient militaria or personal adornment!
