Smith & Wesson First Model 44 Double Action Frontier Revolver, #1931, .44 S&W Russ. cal., 4" barrel, maker's name, address and 1865-69-71-79-80 patent dates in 2 lines on top rib. Barrel and cylinder (with auto extraction) tip up on large frame hinge, lock into standing breech, frame has "squareback" trigger guard, integral "saw-handle" straps with 2-pc. checkered hard rubber grips having the entwined "S&W" logo at top. Has the scarce 1-9/16" length 6-shot cylinder. Mfg'd pre-1898 with blued finish. Condition is good retaining traces of original blue, an overall dark brown patina with scattered oxidation, good edges and markings. Grips show considerable wear but are sound and fit well. Action is crisp, bright bore shows occasional oxidation and sharp rifling. Est.: $1,200-$1,800. (Antique)**
