Item Description: Translate description
WW1 era bolt action US Military rifle manufactured circa 1938. Refurbished/rebuilt for use in WW2. Features 24" barrel, blade front sight with clip-on protector, Marked "R", "U.S." with flaming bomb, rear sight removed and correct Lyman 48 adjustable peep sight installed, Second variation (1919-1947) had the same size mounting block of the first and required the stock to be cut. The slide was shortened to 1.75 inches and graduated into 125 points ( Source-CMP). Manual safety, Polished WL 3 bolt, (1921-28) sling swivels, stacking swivel. S stock without grasping grooves. Bore is very good condition/bright with some scattered areas of very light pinprick pitting. reblued finish is about 98% with very minor edge wear. Refinished walnut stock and handguard are very good condition, matching colors, with minor dents and other handling marks. Correct "J.F.A. in box cartouche on left wrist. Colonel Frank J. Atwood, the chief of the Rochester (NY) Ordnance District 1942-1945 with the chief of the Rochester (NY) Ordnance District 1942-1945. Crossed cannons, and "P" in circle on lower grip, 5 small cartouches in front of triggerguard. Serial number dates the receiver to 1942. Barrel marked "SA" over ordnance bomb over "3-38" The Springfield markings on the receiver ring are crisp/clear, but the barrel markings and stock cartouches are feint due to refurbishing. , hinged smooth steel buttplate, correct oiler in buttstock. NRA Condition-Very Good. C&R firearm.
