Low Estimate: 1,700High Estimate: 1,90025 1/2" curved blade with deep unstopped fuller. The blade has a silver gray patina with scattered oxidation staining, a little heavier in spots; the edges of the fuller remain crisp, the main edge of the blade shows light scuffing and a few tiny nicks and chips. The blade is marked "E.T. / U.S. / N. STARR" on the obverse ricasso and the revse ricasso is simply marked "11" or "II". The iron guard with curved square edge quillion has a dark brown-black patina with a patches of gray and scattered fine oxidation and dirt staining. The grooved wooden handle rates about very good with traces of original blak paint in the grooves and modest chipping at the collar and pommel. Included with the sword is an original steel scabbard which are not commonly encountered. The scabbard matches the color of the guard and is in good to very good condition with scattered pinprick pitting, a couple shallow dents and the iron spring keeper "fingers" are present at the throat of the scabbard. An overall very good example of the robust early cutlasses. (57957-5)
