Collection of material associated with SGT Russell Tratebas, U.S. Marine Corps, E Company, of Carlson’s Raiders and F Company, 28th Marines, 5th Division in WWII. B. 1921 D. 2005 (83 yrs old). This collection of an American Hero of the Greatest Generation is 1. Dog tag: “TRATEBAS/R/L/3 56165/T 1 43 A/USMC P” Aluminum, oval, dimensions: 1.25 x 1.5”. 2. 5 small bronze Globe and Anchor collar insignia. Dimensions: 1” x.75” (2 missing securing nut) 3. Lapel button, American Legion. 4. Two USMC Marksman badges. One with SS-Pistol tab and other with Bayonet and S.S. Small Bore tab. Both backs unmarked. 5.Hat pin, USMC. 6.USMC Key chain, white metal. 7.Pair of challenge coins, 50th Anniversary of WWII. 1941-1945/1991-1995. Bronze. 1.5” diameter each. 8.Bronze medallion, Reunion of Honor Commemorative Anniversary. 50 Years, Iwo Jima. Diameter: 2.5”. 9.Commemorative Drink Coaster, 49th Anniversary Landing on Iwo Jima, 3rd/4th/5th Divisions. Camp Pendleton, Calif February 19, 1994. Plastic, 3.5” diameter. 10.Medal, Purple Heart. No SN# or engraving. 1.5” x3.25”. Ribbon bar w/large gold star. Marked Sterling Silver on back. 11.Banner, Marine Raiders flag. Cotton, machine stitched. Marked ”Betsy Inc. ’92 MS” near grommet. Measures 32” x52”. 12.Overseas cap, Marine Corps League. Size 7-1/2 w/Globe and Anchor insignia. 13.Volcanic black sand from Iwo Jima (weighs 4lbs, 3oz) and program for the ceremonies. Sand was collected by Russell at the commemoration the 50th anniversary of the battle March 14, 1995. Also in glass vial from Continental Mircronesia. 14.Original Document, Division Circular, Number 38a-42 Citation of 2d Raider Battalion for Outstanding Service.
