WWII USMC VMF-213 PATCHES & VMF-124 GROUPING
WWII USMC VMF-213 Patches and VMF-124 / Army Officer Grouping. Attributed to Army Colonel James G. "Jim" Lusk, who originally enlisted in the Marine Corps during WWII and was a Corporal with VMF-124. Grouping Includes (2) VMF-213 Patches. Full cotton embroidery on twill. Size: 5". (1) Cold War era nametag. (1) 2 3/4" Vanguard Sterling Naval Aviator Wings (1) MCAS Mojave California unit book (Lusk is pictured). (1) ribbon bar. (1) Set of Captain rank bars. (2) WWII original photographs. (3) Aerial recon photos of Japan. Colonel James G. "Jim" Lusk was born August 4, 1925. During WWII, he enlisted into the Marine Corps and served as a Corporal with VMF-124. The unit was activated in December 1942 and deployed to Guadalcanal in February 1943. The squadron remained in the Solomon Islands until September 1943, when they were recalled back to MCAS Mojave for reconstruction and training. A year later, VMF-124, along with VMF-213, returned to the Pacific and operated off of the USS Essex. They fought in Lingayen, Luzon, Formosa, Tokyo, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Lusk continued his service into the Korean War, and then commissioned into the Army. After a total of 44 years, Lusk retired at the rank of Colonel and as Deputy Director of the School of International Studies at Fort Bragg. He passed away at the age of 97 in 2023 at Candler Hospital in Savannah, Georgia.
