Bore Condition: The bore is bright, the rifling is sharp. There is no visible erosion in the bore but there is light fouling throughout. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 80% of its metal finish. The barrel and receiver show light thinning at handling points. The magazine tube and slide bar show some operational wear. There are small areas of finish loss on the edges and high points. The screw heads are serviceable with light tooling. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 62A is a classic American pump-action rifle chambered for .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle cartridges. It was the final development of the John Browning-designed Winchester Model 1890 and 1906, known for its smooth operation and excellent craftsmanship.

The 62A, introduced in 1940, was the last iteration of the Model 62 series, featuring a modified takedown system and a streamlined receiver. These rifles were widely used for small game hunting and target shooting and were also a staple at shooting galleries due to their ability to cycle .22 Short reliably.

This example, with its 1953 manufacture date, remains in very good condition with a strong bore, smooth mechanics, and solid wood. It’s an excellent find for collectors of classic Winchester firearms and enthusiasts looking for a fun, accurate .22 rifle.
