Low Estimate2000
serial #8714, 275 Mauser (7mm Mauser), 20" barrel with a bright excellent bore. This handsome rifle is in truly fantastic condition. The metal surfaces retain 98% restored satin blue finish with a light handling mark here or there and some minor wear on the bolt body and handle; the claw extractor and races are honed bright. The barrel is maker marked "CHARLES LANCASTER. 151 NEW BOND ST LONDON. W." along the top. The checkered round knob classic style English walnut buttstock features a nice horn forend tip, checkered panels at the grip with a wrap-around forearm pattern, all neatly chased with mullered borders; a shepard's crook style sling eyelet is mounted on the toe line with a matching stud soldered to the underside of the barrel. The stock rates excellent as refinished showing some minor scattered dings and blemishes. At some point, the wrist appears to have cracked completely through and shows two tiny cracks on either side of the lower tang and a single crack at the top of the wrist at the receiver. A small repaired oval section on the wrist indicates there is most likely a screw holding the wrist together; the wrist does not flex and has been effectively repaired. There is a small crack beginning at the rear of the upper tang, in a small squarish repair that likely replaced a missing chip or flake. The length of pull to the plain steel buttplate is 14 1/2". Featured is a tuned single trigger, bead front sight and 3 leaf express rear sight, one standing two folding with platinum index lines. This rifle is outfitted with a one piece receiver scope mount with a Lyman Alaskan 2 1/2x scope with very good optics and post and crosshair reticle. Overall a beautiful British Mauser sporting rifle that would be sure to hold its own on the range or afield. (156520-2786) {C&R} [Richard "Stretch" Kennedy Collection]
