West Africa, Ghana, Asante Royal court throne chair known as an Asipim or I stand form royal chair of the Asante culture. Exclusively used by chiefs and court figures with innumerable European brass appliques or tacks and " Mpeaboo " gold weight shaped decoration over the wood with hide frame. The top of the chair decorated with two finials known as "ntuatire", often in a so called eagle talons form. It is known that the more chairs or Asipim an Akan chief posses the more powerful they are, some less chief only posses four thrones while very powerful chief possess 14 or more. Size 31" H x 15" W. Condition: Breaks to leather seat, repaired and restored, losses throughout.. Provenance: Family collection of an esteemed diplomat and ambassador amassed during travel and work circa 1960-1990s in the medical field providing charitable advanced medical care throughout the African continent and internationally.

This auction is conducted under the listed terms and conditions. Conditions and representation of lots is provided as guidance for the bidders and should not be treated as a statement of fact. All lots are sold as is with no representation of age, condition or description. Absence of condition does not imply perfect or free of flaws including cracks, damage, tears or other possible imperfections. By participating in this auction bidders agree that all lots are sold as is without any warrants or representations with respect to the lots. The auctioneer retains the right to reject any bid and to withdraw or pass any lot at his or her absolute discretion. When identical absentee bids are submitted the auctioneer will accept the first bid presented at his or her discretion. The highest bidder as determined by the auction house shall be responsible to pay for the hammer, buyer's premium and any applicable sales tax. Ownership of lots shall not be transitioned to the respective winning bidder until the auction house is satisfied with all funds being transferred and cleared to the auction house's account. All sales are final. Buyers have 10 days to arrange for removal of lots from the auction houses facility. After 10 days the auction house reserves the right to charge a $5 storage fee for each additional day until the lots have been removed. The auction house reserves the right to relist and sell any lots which have accrued a storage fee larger than the hammer plus buyer's premium total for a given lot. Shipping and safe delivery of the lots is the buyer's responsibility. The auction house reserves the right to update or remove any lot listed at the auction house's discretion.
