According to the Standard Catalog Of Smith & Wesson's book, this Model 28-2 "Highway Patrolman" 357 Magnum revolver was produced in circa 1972; however, this revolver comes in the original box with paperwork (serial numbers matching) and the box is dated "April 25, 1974," on the inside portion of the lid. SPECS: DA/SA trigger, matte blued finish, 4" ribbed barrel, shrouded extractor rod, casehardened hammer with checkering, grooved casehardened trigger, checkered walnut Magna-style flat butt grips with silver "S&W" medallion inlays, grooved front & rear straps, adjustable rear sight pinned to the channel, Patridge front sight with orange insert and 6-shot swing-out cylinder. CONDITION: This revolver is in beautiful condition with very light wear, has an excellent sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order. HISTORY: The Smith & Wesson Model 28, also known as the Highway Patrolman, is a heavy N-frame revolver that was designed specifically for law enforcement and was produced from 1954 to 1986. It was a high-quality version of the S&W Model 27 chambered for the .357 Magnum cartridge. It was available with 4" or 6" barrels. The Model 28 went through three engineering changes during its production: 28-1: Extractor rod change; 28-2: Trigger guard screw eliminated; and 28-3: Pinned barrel and recessed cylinder eliminated.
