Item Details
Near excellent condition mag fed bolt action shotgun. 36" barrel, smooth bore appear to be clean, shiny, and bright with a few black specks. Bluing on the gun appears to be excellent, near 100%. There is some very light pitting and surface rust. One-piece American walnut stock with a pistol grip and a medium brown finish with some dings, bangs, and scuffs from age and use. No cracks or chips. Bolt action is smooth with a nice pop. It has a rubber anti-shock buttplate. This would be a great addition to any hunter's collection or arsenal!! Gun has been gone over by a professional gunsmith. The Marlin Model 55 "Original Goose Gun" is a 12-gauge, bolt-action shotgun specifically designed for long-range waterfowl hunting, featuring a distinctive 36-inch barrel and a fixed full choke. Key Features and Specifications The Marlin Model 55 Goose Gun was known for its robust build and performance, becoming a popular choice for waterfowl and turkey hunting. Action: Bolt-action. Gauge: 12 gauge, typically chambered for 3-inch magnum shells. Barrel Length: A distinctive 36 inches. Choke: Fixed Full choke for tight, long-range patterns. Magazine: Detachable 2-round box magazine. Overall Length: 56¾ inches. Weight: Approximately 8 pounds. Stock: One-piece American walnut stock with a pistol grip and a rubber recoil pad. Sights: A simple brass bead front sight; the receiver is often drilled and tapped for a side-mount rear sight. Production Years: The "Goose Gun" variant was produced from 1962 to 1988. Reputation and Value Hunters appreciated the included sling swivels for easier carrying and the recoil pad which helped manage the heavy recoil of 3-inch magnum shells. Performance: Reviewers note that the long barrel and full choke help the gun achieve very tight, consistent patterns at long ranges, sometimes effectively out to 80 yards. Handling: Due to its length, it is considered an unwieldy and "ridiculously long" firearm by some users, but others find it well-balanced for its size. Market Value: The value of a used Marlin Model 55 Goose Gun varies greatly depending on condition.
