1927-s Standing Liberty 25c Grades FN+

Lot # 80 (Sale Order: 81 of 224)

This is a nice mostly white example. The 1927-s SLQ is rare in any grade. According to David Hall "The 1927-S quarter is the lowest mintage (by a large margin) Type 2 Standing Liberty quarter. In fact, it is the second lowest mintage of the entire series as only the very rare 1916 had a lower mintage. This issue is very interesting in terms of the distribution of grades of the survivors. Basically, 95 percent or more of the survivors grade AG03 to GD06. VG, Fine, VF, and XF examples are really rare. The 1927-S obviously saw extensive circulation and not many were saved at the time of issue. The low mintage is an attraction to some rare coin entusiasts, but while the coin is rare in almost all grades, it is only semi-scarce in the lowest grades (AG03-GD06). 1927-S quarters are desireable in any grade and they are still a legitimate 20th century rarity in any grade VG08 or higher." Trends lists at $110-$325. Estimated Value $150...more

1995 POBJOY MINT ISLE OF MAN Bi Metal 2 Coin Platinum Gold proof set 500 Mintage

Lot # 91 (Sale Order: 92 of 224)

Located in the Irish Sea between Great Britain and Ireland, the Isle of Man is a self-governing British Dependency. It is only 32 miles long and 14 miles wide with a population of about 80,000. In the 8th century, the Vikings established the legislature of Tynwald which governs the island to this day. From the 1200s to the 1700s, Scotland and England alternated rule over the island, but the Isle of Man never became a part of either country. Today, the Lord of Mann is Queen Elizabeth II and the island has been a crown dependency of Great Britain since 1765. While the Isle of Man had standard currency in the 1800s, the modern age has seen an abundance of coins coming from this small island. Commissioning the private Pobjoy Mint, the Isle of Man produces circulating Pound sterling coins, actively traded Angel gold bullion, and hundreds of non-circulating commemorative designs. In fact, the Isle of Man is so prolific in its coin production that the sale of its coins has become an income source for the island and leads the way for the introduction of new issues in Great Britain. Building a complete set of Isle of Man commemoratives can be daunting, and in many cases expensive, since large numbers are minted in silver and gold. This beautiful set contains 2 coins, both containing gold and platinum. Issued by the Isle of Man, the quarter Angel depicts the Archangel Michael on the reverse, and the quarter Noble displays a Viking ship at full sail. Each of these bi-metallic coins features a right facing likeness of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. The actual metal content of these coins is a ¼ ounce each of gold and platinum. Comes with original box and the certificate of authenticity from the Pobjoy Mint. Estimated Value $1500...more
