1864 L Indian Head cent 1c grades FN+

Lot # 101 (Sale Order: 101 of 224)

This lot is for the very scarce 1864 L on ribbon Indian cent variety. According to David Hall, “The 1864-L is scarce in circulated grades and very scarce in mint state. However, its price has as much to do with its popularity and importance to collectors as it does with its scarcity. All 1864-L Indian cents have a pointed bust on Ms. Liberty, while the no L’s have a rounded bust. So sometimes low grades are designated (correctly) as L’s even if you can't really see the L. It has a nice look. It was consigned as an "L". I am not seeing the 'L', but it does have the other markers. I am comfortable with calling this an "L" variety and I will guarantee that it is an "L" on ribbon. This example grades FN+. Estimated Value $225...more

1927-s Standing Liberty Quarter 25c Grades FN+

Lot # 107 (Sale Order: 107 of 224)

This is a nice lightly toned example. The 1927-s SLQ is rare in any grade. According to David Hall "The 1927-S quarter is the lowest mintage (by a large margin) Type 2 Standing Liberty quarter. In fact, it is the second lowest mintage of the entire series as only the very rare 1916 had a lower mintage. This issue is very interesting in terms of the distribution of grades of the survivors. Basically, 95 percent or more of the survivors grade AG03 to GD06. VG, Fine, VF, and XF examples are really rare. The 1927-S obviously saw extensive circulation and not many were saved at the time of issue. The low mintage is an attraction to some rare coin entusiasts, but while the coin is rare in almost all grades, it is only semi-scarce in the lowest grades (AG03-GD06). 1927-S quarters are desireable in any grade and they are still a legitimate 20th century rarity in any grade VG08 or higher." Trends lists at $110-$325. Estimated Value $250...more

KEY DATE to the series the 1921-s Walking Liberty Half dollar. According to David Hall, "The 1921-s is the "key" date, but interestingly enough it is not the rarest walker.
