Outstanding German Porcelain Half Doll "Gold Earrings Lady" Attributed to Royal Rudolstadt $900/1300

18" (46 cm.) overall. 7 1/2" waist-up. Porcelain waist-up nude figure of slender adult lady, her head turned modestly downward and to the right, with slender angular facial shape and throat, brown sculpted loosely-flowing hair captured in a loose roll at the back and decorated with large turquoise beads, very long gold earrings edging her throat, unusual modeling of face with pronounced nose enhanced by finely-detailed blush spots, her arms having bent elbows and held modestly in front of her bodice with elegantly posed fingers. The half doll is attached to her original wire lamp cage and is costumed in antique embroidered silks. Excellent condition. Attributed to Royal Rudolstadt, Germany, circa 1900...more

Bisque swivel head on kid-edged bisque shoulder plate, blue glass enamel inset eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, feathered brows, accented nostrils and eye corners, closed mouth with pale accented lips, pierced ears, hip-length hand-tied human hair wig over cork pate, very shapely all-blown-leather body with dowel-jointing at the shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, and having well-defined fingers and toes. Condition: generally excellent, body especially sturdy and clean. Marks: Poupee Brevetee SGDG (stamp on kid collarette). Comments: Pierre-Victor Clement, circa 1867, the poupee has Clement's unique deposed body of molded hollow ("blown") leather. Value Points: preserved in impeccable original condition, enhancing the beautiful bisque face, the doll was originally owned by Juliette Chouanard (ne de la Hogue-Moreau) of Paris (1861-1930), from a distinguished French family, passed onto Juliette's daughter, and then in 1978 passed into the hands of the private collector who preserved the doll until this day. The doll was featured in a 1988 article in Doll News, and retains much of its original costumes including a superb pair of Huret-like ankle boots, silk gown with matching cap, chemisette, undergarments, and bone-handled silk parasol, along with a photograph of Juliette....more

Extremely Rare Previously Undocumented French Bisque Bebe by Pierre-Victor Clement $20,000/30,000

17" (43 cm.) Pressed bisque socket head with very distinctive portrait-like expression, blue glass spiral-threaded eyes, dark eyeliner, painted lashes, mauve-blushed eye-shadow and cheek and chin blush, aquiline-shaped nose with shaded nostrils, closed mouth, outlined lips, impressed dimples at lip corners, pierced ears, original blonde mohair wig over cork pate, molded hollow ("blown") leather body in classic bebe proportions with dowel-jointing at shoulders, elbows, side-hips and side-knees, well-defined fingers and toes. Condition: generally excellent, a very fine nearly imperceptible 1" line at forehead rim (under wig, appears original), leather dent in torso, original body finish. Marks: (see inset photo of foot bottom). Comments: Pierre-Victor Clement, who deposed the body for his hollow-leather body poupee in 1867; the body for this bebe model is constructed in the same method, only having childlike proportions rather than the taller and more slender lady body. Circa 1875. Value Points: extremely rare, no other bebe model from Clement is known to exist, and having stunningly beautiful bisque face, the doll is preserved in an early wooden box along with an assortment of her original handmade costumes of the mid/late 1870s comprising two dresses, two jackets, three bonnets, two pairs of shoes (one pair signed C.C., one pair stamped G), night shift and split-leg drawers....more

Comments: Leon Casimir Bru, his 1872 deposed model of a gently-smiling lady, inspired by the beloved Empress Eugenie. Superb Early Wooden Fully-Jointed Doll with Original Costume $7000/10,000

19" (48 cm.) All-wooden doll with heart-shaped face and elongated slender throat, one piece head and torso with modeled bosom and high waist, rounded crown of head accentuating the black painted hair with elaborate details of curls onto her forehead, painted ivory complexion, pale green eyes with detailed-threaded and painted lashes, brush-stroked brows, aquiline nose with accented nostrils, closed mouth, blush spots on cheeks and chin, elongated limbs with dowel-jointing at shoulders, elbows, hips and knees, well-defined fingers, painted yellow slippers with black outline, and wearing original coral velvet and metallic lace gown over ivory satin, with paillette-trimmed braid, worn silk pantalets tied at the ankles. Condition: generally excellent, finish well-preserved except one vertical paint-split on each cheek. Comments: Circa 1830, believed to be for the French market, the actual doll is presented in a full-page photograph in The Panorama of Parisienne Dolls by Theimer, described as "articulated wooden Parisienne doll, Empire era". Value Points: superb carving of the large poupee is especially evident in her profile view, her beautifully sculpted face and throat are clearly patrician in her breeding....more
