Rare U.S. Martial Second Contract North & Cheney Flintlock Pistol
Lot # 1 (Sale Order: 1 of 514)
Condition: Very good. Mellow brass patina, nicks and marks, primarily on buttcap. Steel brown patina, pitting, including at muzzle. Stock with chips, primarily from bottom front left at juncture with frame and at top right at juncture with barrel breech; repaired crack through grip at butt. Replacement mainspring, two frame screws and ramrod; mechanism needs repair, hammer will not stay at full or half cock.
Notes: One of a handful known of the 1,500 of the Second Contract North & Cheney pistols.

Condition: Fine. Gray patina to steel; light pitting on lock; mellow patina to brass, with pitting. Stock worn, metal and wood with old cleaning; repair to stock at front of lock and angling down to front tang of triggerguard.
Notes: The McCormick U.S. Navy Flintlock is a rarely seen U.S. martial arm, dating c. 1797-1800 - and possibly preceding the North & Cheney. This specimen is considered to be the best known example.

Condition: Very good. Brown patina to steel, with pitting; dented ramrod ferrules; old refacing to frizzen; stock with old cleaning; restoration to front section of fore-end; replacement hammer of same vintage as pistol.
Notes: Only approximately nine examples known of this type pistol, but most with Hunter barrel marking, rather than Schreider. Note styling of sideplate reminiscent of Kentucky Rifles of that period.

Condition: Fine. Gray patina to steel; light pitting; stock with light nicks, minor wear.
Notes: Type used by civilians, or by Horse Troops, or issued to state militia. With embellishments, these pistols most likely to have been used by officers. See page 312 of Smith and Bitter book on U.S. Martial pistols for illustration of similar pistol, also marked H. Young & Co., New York.

U.S. Martially Marked Harpers Ferry Model 1805 Flintlock Pistol, Dated 1806

Condition: Very good. Gray and brown patina to steel with pitting, primarily on barrel; now worn front sight installed, as has been oval thumb piece escutcheon on stock; replacement ramrod; stock with nicks, marks and wear; crack through grip and minor wood repairs at front and back of lock. Touch-hole corroded.
Notes: Barrel number had been of three digits, the first being 1, and the third 6. Early eagle marking on lock, with raised, straight beak, indicating that number will be under 133.

Stock worn and with nicks, mars; crack from rear of lock and matching on opposite side of stock; chips from stock at bottom rear of lock, and light chipping around sideplate and at rear of barrel band.
Notes: Largest of the U.S. Martial flintlock pistols.

Mechanism needs repair; hammer does not stay at half or full cock.

U.S. Martially Marked Model 1813 Flintlock Pistol By Simeon North

Condition: Good to very good. Pitting and gray and brown patina, most pronounced on barrel and band; sear and sear spring old replacements, resulting in gouging the opening in the stock at rear of lockplate, leaving tip of sear visible; top jaw and screw, main spring and ramrod replacements; repair to stock where ramrod channel had been exposed.
Notes: Double necked barrel band, with grooves on either side of both necks; brass blade front sight atop front neck, as typical of the Model 1816 North band; but this band is original to this pistol, and will not go on the 1816 North. Pistol c. 1813-1814.

Notes: Partially manufactured in 1807, and completed in 1818. Note gooseneck hammer. One of the first type Model 1817 pistols, of which only 400 produced.
