According to the Winchester Arms Collectors Organization serial number database, this Model 52B Target rifle was produced in 1940. SPECS: Smooth one-piece walnut stock with beavertail forearm & glossed finish, grooved stainless steel buttplate with black spacer, 28" target barrel with blued finish & recessed crown, dovetailed folding tangent rear sight - "PAT. NOV. 11. 1919. APRIL 27. 1920", dovetailed front globe sight with post insert, stainless steel rail under the forearm, sling ring, grooved trigger shoe, period correct detachable blued steel magazine and period correct mounted J. Unertl #28298 long range scope on adjustable J. Unertl rings. CONDITION: This rifle is in beautiful condition with very light wear, has an excellent sharp/ clean bore and appears to be in good working order. HISTORY: The Winchester Model 52 bolt-action .22-caliber target rifle was introduced in 1920. For many years, it was the premier small-bore match rifle in the United States, if not the world. Known as the "King of the .22s," the Model 52 was ranked by Field & Stream as one of "the 50 best guns ever made" and described by Winchester historian, Herbert Houze, as "perfection in design. The Model 52B was introduced in 1937, and featured an improved Speed Lock design. In 1980, the costly-to-produce Model 52, was finally discontinued when US Repeating Arms took over the manufacture of Winchester rifles from Olin Corporation.
